Ouch, a Scratched Cornea

My DIL was camping earlier this week and set off to the wooded area around their campsite in search of wood for the campfire.  She bent over to pick up a piece of wood and when she came up, a stick came in contact with her eye and scratched she suffered a painful scratch. 

She went to the emergency room and they treated her with eye drops and told her to wear a patch over the eye until she could see an opthamologist.  Her appointment was yesterday.  They gave her more eye drops to put in her eye every 2 hours and put novacaine in her eye so she could open her lid.  They found she scratched her cornea and that there was fluid building up in her eye.  The doctor said that she may lose some of her vision in the injured eye.  She returns next week for a follow up and may have to have the fluid drained from her eye.  (yuck!)

Hopefully, she will regain her eyesight.  We are keeping our fingers crossed.

I've had a scratched cornea twice, and it's awful, but never as bad as you're describing. I really hope all comes out OK and her eyesight is OK.

I'm so sorry that she injured her cornes. I had that once and it was aggravating more than painful for me. I am now fighting exposed areas on my left cornea due to dry eye syndrome so I know all about the eye drops. I hope she heals quickly.

och, that sounds horrible, i have had a scratched cornia and so has my son, but ive never heard of it getting that bad, I cringe just reading this, the poor girl

I hope everything works out for your DIL. An eye injury is a terrible thing. My son once got hit in the eye with one of those thistle things. He had many thorns stuck in his eye, several are still there. I will never forget what that poor little guy went through. But luckily his vision is okay.

as some one else said Ouch!!! anything in the eye hurts the rest of the body, that and a toothache can drive you crazy. I hope she keeps the patch over her eye. I had an eye infection one time after an eye surgery and had to wear the patch for a few days and religiously put in the eye drops which had an antibiotic and pain killer combined in them. thank goodness I didn't lose any sight. My best to your DIL, I hope she is better really soon.

Ouch! Fortunately eyes tend to heal quickly, but they're also a lot more painful. I've scratched my cornea a few times when debris got under my contact lenses. I've since given up on the contacts because a scratched cornea is no fun.

She came to the surprise party for my birthday today. Her eye looked much better and she said she is seeing a bit more clearly now.
