Obama Versus Clinton

The news media and the candidates have made quite a big deal of Obama's suggestion that he would meet with unpopular nation heads during his first year of office. Is this really a sign of Obama's inexperience or of Hilary's being part of the establishment?

What do you believe? Should we meet with these leaders or not? I say yes.

I think that Obama is a junior senator with big ideas and passion for change and that is very very American. However, he does not have enough experience with control or experience in implementing change. He has not been around long enough. Clinton has been around and around and around. So, yes...she is established but not necessarily part of an establishment with negative connotations attached. I think Obama is obviously threatened by her.....she is not threatened by him.

It seems that labels such as "axis of evil" play well in the press and with the chest-pounders, but is a non-starter when comes to finding common ground and avenues that lead away from war. There should always be channels of dialogue between us and every nation on the planet.

What Obama brings to the table is most frightening to neo-cons and the old guard ideologues. If we have learned anything from our experiences with Iraq, Iran and North Korea, it is that there will be no place in future for the jingoist mentally of shoot first and talk later. Being the world's remaining superpower means nothing if does not strike fear in the hearts of your fellow man.

Eliza, I mostly agree with you, except for one part. I do feel Hilary is a bit threatened by Obama. If she isn't, maybe she should be. For someone so inexperienced, he certainly seems to be reaching a part of the base.

Donald, I think they would still want to meet with a US president. Maybe not with George W. He's been seriously marginalized, by his own actions and our media. But, I have no doubt they'll want to meet with the next US presidenet.

Good point, Charles. Iraq certainly proved that.

I agree with your article. I disagree that Hilary is not afraid of Obama. She started the current spat by saying he was naive and irresponsible. I agree with Obama on the importance of talking with leaders of "enemy"nations. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...isn't that what they say? I think Hilary is too entrenched in "the way we have always done it" and won't be brave enough, after getting burned with her healthcare reform in the 90's, to make the big changes that need to happen. George Bush has certainly brought about change (not the good kind, but what he wanted) and he wasn't experienced in Washington so I don't think that is a fair thing to criticize Obama on. Regardless of his so called inexperience, he would be SO much better than Bush, and Bush got re-elected!?!

what I think is a non-started for leading away from war is
an islamic country developing nuclear weapons, lying about it
and saying they are going to destroy another country, while
holding anti-US and holocaust denial seminars worldwide.

i don't know what obama would have to say to those guys
if he disagrees with them, and i hope he does.

Hillary isn't voicing "big plans" because of reaction to her healthcare plan, but this doesn't mean she is not going to make big changes.

Hillary is a puppet and a figurehead, up for grabs by the biggest banker(s). I hope Senator Obama DOES NOT choose her as his VP running mate. He may find himself saying,

"Et tu, Hillary?"

I honestly haven't been paying much attention, but I don't have any reason to dislike Obama; I haven't heard anything bad about him.

Whereas Hillary Clinton is not someone I trust around the video game industry.

That is too funny Austin. I think Obama is a nice man in a not very nice world. Right now he is too inexperienced. I don't know if Hillary is a puppet, as Lady Nalita says, but I believe she is possibly the most dangerous person to ever run for the office of President of the US. She is a cold, calculating Socialist, a person who has actually expressed admiration for people like Stalin, a man responsible for murdering millions of his own people. She is the type of person that believes that people don't really know what's good for themselves, but she will gladly take on that responsibility, since she is vastly superior to the masses.

But I'm with Austin...keep her away from video games, lol.
Diplomacy isn't just matter of meeting and talking. To simplify this, there is strategy involved, whether you want to face that reality or not. If it were so easy, then anyone could be a diplomat. Obama's idea to just visit Cuba and talk to Raul with no stipulations clearly shows his naivete.
I don't think McCain will have a problem meeting with them or being a diplomat. Where do Obama and Hillary come into this picture. We are talking about after November 2008, aren't we?

Know your enemy. The biggest mistake GWB made was not talking to national leaders. Having meetings, exchanging grievances, listening and attempting to understand them is not a bad idea. Ignorance begets hatred.

begets... heheh... what a nifty word.
