Road Trips: Parents fight

I think it's normal to be a bit stressed when you are cooped up in a car for so long, sure. I don't know that it's normal to bicker and grump with each other, but everyone deals with stress differently.

Yes it is...my husband and I either bicker or just ignore each other on road trips...

Yap, sound likes me and my husband, we never leave any opportunity to do so with each other. That's life... it is easy to get pricked by some thorns while cherishing the roses.....

Hoping that you understood, what I meant. As long as we are back together and laughing next day after one bad night or evening or afternoon... it's fine with me.

Actually, my family and I usually fight right up until we get going on any trip. For us, it is the stress of getting ready. Once we are on the way, we relax and enjoy the ride, and the family time.

Stress does funny things to people's personalities. I hate being cooped up in a car for more than two hours.

My husband and I do tend to bicker more when we're cooped up together in the car for long trips. This is partly because we have very different ways of dealing with things -- I talk things out, he has to have "quiet" particularly when he's trying to find something. We usually compromise -- he listens to his music, I read my books :-)

You were 31 when you went on the road trip -- I bet you're feeling more like 50 now!

LOL... Kris. Yes, I became a quieter person.

I would think so otherwise a lot of families are not normal

I don't know if it's normal but I do remember my parents arguing in the car. Such fun...

I couldn't imagine being in a car with my parents for that long.

Eh.. I hate road trips of any sort last one I attempted was when I visited friends in San Francisco and we went to Tahoe it was horrible I actually caught a flight from Tahoe back to San Francisco for $60 - Which is most likely what Gas and Food for the journey would have cost. Now my motto is WHY DRIVE WHEN YOU CAN FLY... isn't that what SouthWest Air is for?

My friends recently commented they were going on a road trip from San Francisco to Chicago I asked how many hours it would take she laughed and said about two days why do that to your system?.. Here it takes about twelve hours or less to drive from the most southern point to the most northern point of the Country I still wouldn't do it when I can fly it in a hour for about €30 incl tax

My husband and I, realizing we were growing apart and in danger of losing our family, left our old life and traveled for 2 years with our kids in a motor home. In a drastic effort to correct the course we were on, we left a great home, community, careers, etc. in Asheville, NC, and leapt, hoping the net would appear, for parts unknown. The image I had then was of our family standing naked on the edge of a cliff!

We had so many crazy adventures...like the time a tornado almost lifted our RV off the ground outside of Houston, and the time we carried an injured Loggerhead Sea Turtle in the back of our car 27 miles up the beach to the turtle lab at Padre Island! We traveled from Virginia to Arizona, spending as much as 5 months in one location depending on what we felt our intuition was telling us.

It was an amazing opportunity to re-weave our connections to each other, drop out of what society expected of us, and solidify our family. Our story can be found at www.berrytrip.us, and a short version of the tale was just published in Jack Canfield's new Law of Attraction book!

My kids have said they will not only tell this story to their own children, but want to take their own someday families on a journey like ours. Makes my heart happy.
