I want to get back to writing. Honing in and hunkering down and spitting the words out. And so...every Tuesday...."yeah right" I hear you saying...I will do this. But it is twue it's twue...I wish to get into zee writing habit.
Now what was I talking about?
Oh yes...writing. Every Tuesday I shall suggest a writing prompt. You may join me or...you can knit sweaters from your dryer lint.
What shall be our very first writing prompt? I am glad you asked.
Find a quote...any quote which floats yer boat. And go from there. Write what comes to mind. Try some automatic writing. And by this I mean...just write and do not pause those fingers from typing. Don't sit there second guessing yourself. Don't go erasing things. Don't get all uptight about spelling and grammar. Whatever comes out....comes out. I was first turned on to automatic writing from a writing teacher who had written several books this way. She had us students try it and it was a powerful technique. When you let go of the inner critic...you can do amazing things. Oh and set a time limit for yourself. See what comes out.
I found my quote.
"Listen; there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go."
e. e. cummings
I have always wondered about other worlds. You look up into the night sky and try to wrap your mind around infinity and you soon realize that you can't. The very nature of infinity is to exist beyond our comprehension. We humans are limited that way.
Even in our imaginings of other universes we always utilize what we know or wish for. I love the male version of alter planets complete with prancing Barbarellas or jumpsuited women. Ever wonder why futuristic babes whether earthly or alien are always big busted and very good looking? Male utopia indeed.
My version of an alternate universe would have to include chocolate. Lots of it. Yes a chocolate world where everything is edible. Oh wait...that's already been done. Willy Wonka. I wonder if he invented edible panties?
I am sure that everyone has their version of the good universe next door. It simply has everything you like and nothing you dislike. But what kind of world would this utopia be? No obstacles to overcome. Nothing to fight for. No adversity. We could sit upon our arses and be....why we could be just like Paris Hilton. In the alternate universe she reigns as queen. Oh wait....that is here on earth.
When you get right down to it there truly isn't any reason to go seeking out other worlds. We have everything we need here including growth building pain and adversity, not to mention big boobed women for the guys and chocolate for the gals. And Paris Hilton can buy as many edible undies as she can afford!

Why is, you think, that the truly wise are not comics? Those painfully aware and with a penchant for seeing irony, hypocrisy, and let's not forget greed and lust just as they are become our leading comics, which is another way of saying social critic.
When you see the suffering so many humans endure daily, you must despair unless your heart has grown hard like its abused arteries. I have seen children living in caves while the tourist bus zoomed by with at least a few children already plump from too much licking ice cream cones that dripped in the Egyptian dust.
To see yards, lush green yards with our youth planted in hard cases like stubborn flowers unaware of the challenges to reach heaven... to see these is to despair.
To see the swollen bellies of starving children while ours go to fat camp is full of despair. We must, through the weight of our despair, rise and meet the new day with at least a gesture that says although we despair, the shadow of hope is our halo.
-David Russell
Whoever said life had bridges? Mostly I think life is a raging rapids. You cant stop it all you can do is follow were it leads and pray you don't drown in the process. I've seen friends swept away, watch them literally drawn and I've tried to pull them out but they refuse to take my hand, they refuse to tread back to safty. I think some people welcome the water, welcome the swells of life, it feeds them and gives them meaning. Others like me try to avoid the rapids, just happy in my safe little raft, waiting for the hole to develop. Burn your bridges…I never did get that. Who intentionally sets fire to their bridge? That's your safety net, that's the one thing that can get you from one side of the rapids to the other so that you don't touch the water…maybe this makes some semblance of sense, maybe it doesn't. I have no clue who David Russell is…but I wander why he started burning his bridges in the first place.
... for there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so ...
keep writing...i am eager to see more!
What is a that?
Is it tall and thin or short and fat?
"If that's all there is...then let's keep dancing."
You're gonna get me in trouble with hubby
"The measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out."
Interesting...I'm sure I've never heard it credited to MACAULAY ...but that's what I found on line
now I am going to bed.
Hope all's wonderful with you, synchronicity :)
