No time to waste! Here are the top three, must-see Gather experiences of the day!
(1.) Though best known as an actress, Minnie Driver is also an accomplished and successful singer-songwriter. She just released a new album and is joining us later TODAY to talk about it! Be sure to set an alarm for 6pm ET for your chance to have an exclusive live-chat with musician and Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver. The chat will take place on the Gather homepage and in the Gather Music Essential.
To learn more about Minnie, check out her Gather namespace at minniedriver.gather.com
(2.) My mother’s going to kill me for sharing this story… but what the heck, sharing is what Gather is all about!
One of my most vivid memories of my mother is her standing nearly naked on our back deck in the dead of winter, ankle deep in snow, SCREAMING that she was HOT! I eventually realized she was going through menopause.
Hopefully, we can help spare you some of my mom’s turmoil. TODAY Gather is launching Menopause Talk. A safe place where women can discuss “the change” with openness, support, and humor. Feel free to check it out for yourself at menopausetalk.gather.com
(3.) Also TODAY, Gather’s “Ask the Author” series continues with the author of the new, summer read “Barefoot”. Join us at 1pm ET for a live chat with Elin Hilderbrand. If you’ve ever dreamed of being a full-time writer or running away to live on an island, you’ll want to join us for this chat. Ms. Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket and writes about the island in this book and her five previous novels. So escape the hum-drum work week and join us at 1pm ET for a lively discussion about this great, new beach book! To participate in the chat, just visit asktheauthor.gather.com
Favorite Family Photo – Promotion Update!!!!!!
As you may have noticed, we’ve been experiencing some site difficulties over the last few days. Those difficulties have prevented us from determining the daily winners and commenters in the “Favorite Family Photo” promotion. That’s the bad news. The good news is the problem is fixed! I’ll publish an article later TODAY announcing all the winners dating back to the contests launch.
Meantime, in an effort to simplify this fun opportunity, Gather will no longer require you to post your pictures to the Family Essential to be determined a winner. All you have to do is upload your Favorite Family Photo anywhere on the site and tag it with the word “family”.
In case you’re just learning about this opportunity, each day the five members with the most 10 ratings will each win a $20.00 Borders Gift Card! (Ratings other than 10’s won’t be counted) And the most memorable commenter on each winning photo will also receive a $20.00 Borders Gift Card! We hope this helps make this photo promotion even more engaging and rewarding!

Here is the correct link Menopause Talk.
Either Donna or I will be at the 'Minnie' chat tonight. We both admire her work and my musical tastes have been piqued by the tracks I've listened to. It's nice having her as one of our celebrity Gather guests.
Therefore if you type minniedriver.gather.com into the link generator, the html editor automatically adds the gather root directory to the front, thus creating a link to http://www.gather.com/minniedriver.gather.com.
i am hot.
but i thought it was because it was july.
The Harry Potter contest winners have been announced in the Harry Potter Gazette each day this week

This actually seems like a big flaw in general in the whole Gather architecture. I'm very hesitant to "friend" anybody or join groups because my content "for Me" tabs become deluged with text and photos in which I have no interest. People cross-post everywhere just to get Gather Points from ratings and views. I really don't have the time or patience to wade through all this extra stuff to read the few appropriate articles.
I think things would be much better if people were reminded they can post content to specific groups without sending the content to all their friends too. I think it'd also be good to limit the number of groups one can cross-post material to. Perhaps 5 or so. But at the very least, there should be some sort of filter Gather members can put in place to regulate the amount and type of material that ends up on their content "for Me" pages.
Hmm, still nothing on the contest outcome? Here's my theory: I think Gather lost the data from the first few days of the contest and is frantically trying to either a) fabricate believable results, or b) recover said lost data. Am I onto something here? The silence is really speaking volumes, Pam et al....
I'll be waiting!
Unless they change the rules mid-contest again, it won't give the correct results.
This is what Pam said to bridget 2 days ago now
"Hi Bridget,
I will announce the winners from the first five days of The Favorite Family Photo contest later TODAY! I'll be sure to publish the article here in the TODAY group, the Family Essential and several other relevant Gather groups. Thanks for checking!

Silence is suspicious, Pam.
Sorry you feel as though my silence has been suspicious. I think you know more than most that I try really hard to be attentive and get to the bottom of problems as fast as possible. I actually working out of the office today and therefore away from my computer nearly all day. My colleagues on Team Gather have been collecting the data (it has not been lost) and they did come up with the top individual winner for each day and complimenting commenter. However, they were unaware that there are FIVE winning photographs and comments per day, so I had to send them back to the data report to retrieve all the winning information. I am so sorry we have not been able to be more efficient in announcing the winners, I really am... I feel terribly about it. But when I announce winners, I need to make sure the list is accurate and complete... and it's just not there yet. I will post the winners and commenters as soon as I possibly can and I thank you in advance for your incredible patience and understanding.
Pam
