Weddings on a budget

Get a ton of fab party favors for weddings at the dollar store. This can include the little things of bubbles, such things as paper tableclothes, table plastic goblets etc. etc.

We had to pay for our own wedding too and we only spent $1,500 on the whole thing and everyone said it was one of the most beautiful weddings that they've ever been too.
I rented my dress for $250 and it was gorgeous. Instead of having a big reception afterwards, we had it in the church for free and I bought trays of food from Walmart with sandwiches,vegetables,cheeses,and sodas. We bought a reasonable cake from a local bakery. I fixed up the church myself with my friends and only spent $200, we bought all the things from a local party store. We had a friend of the family take the photography which he did for free and the pictures are awesome. We borrowed a friends town car to leave in after the wedding. We didn't go on a honeymoon, just to a super nice hotel in a local big town close to us.

While my budget wasn't exactly small, we actually did a lot of things ourselves to save a lot of money. One of the biggest things we did that saved potentially thousands of dollars was designing and assembling our own save-the-dates, invitations, placecards, table numbers, etc. These items cost a good amount of money, and making them ourselves gave us a truly unique and personalized style. Attention for detail really enhances a wedding and makes it look more expensive than it really was.

check into using the church, if they don't have a reception area try the local elks club type places they will rent out their space sometimes. Also a great deal depends on if you want to have family members cook or do you want it catered. A local caterer might know a lot and it dosn't hurt to pick their brains. The dollar store is a great place to get some of the things you will need. But if you are really strapped for cash I would skip the favors and just make sure you take a photo with eveyone in it and send a copy with all your thank yous as a nice reminder of you special day. Find a friend or family member to take photos and don't rent a limo unless you really want one because they are budget busters at $97 an hour. Also there are a bunch of those "all in one" event centers, they are pricey but you dont have to travel between a church and a hall. Do everything you can yourself or with family; such as floral arangements - as florists will charge you extra just because they can for a wedding, same goes for most services - as soon as they find out it's a wedding thay tack on a percentage just because they can get away with it.
