Today I only rejected two of the 52 articles waiting in queue. One was an apology because the person's computer was not letting them Gather as well as they would wish. The other was laying out the rules for a game. Submissions to this particular game will be accepted into the group because the game revolves around writing.
I want to keep my comments short, because what I'm doing here is not writing, and I hope to keep it featured for as little time as possible, so actual writing can be featured.
When I am thinking about reading something, I flip to the middle and read a few sentences out of context. If this can be done effortlessly, I may indeed read it. If I have to look up "abjure" or "dynaclopsical", forget it. I am very much a populist, *and* I know a ton of words. For me, the use of obscure words is a sort of performance art intended only for a relatively narrow circle of participants. So, if you want to be featured today, accessibility counts. Belittle me if you want.
A also like interesting and fresh sentence structures. In this case, I'd probably not feature anything I write, because I think my style is very predictable with lots of ()s and -s.
I'll be looking for pieces where the words are not unintentionally misspelled. Intentional, unconventional spellings I consider enhancements. For example, I'm partial to "if'n" (as opposed to "postulating" or some other "real" word.
But, I'm rambling. I'll look not at the content of the writing, but at the way the words are put together.
