Sure does sound like a lot of fun, doesn't it? It's pretty sad but when my family is bored and has nothing else to do, we go run errands.
I usually stay up every night until about 2 am and Friday night was no exception for me. I have insomnia most of the time and after the kids and my husband go to bed, that's "my" time to hang out online with no interruptions. So, I stayed up late Friday night and was able to sleep in until 10 am Saturday morning because my husband is home on the weekends. He's an early riser, so he gets up with the kids. Very nice for me.
About a week and a half ago, my dad was SO nice found a really good deal on some almost-new tires for my truck and surprised me with them. I promised him that I'd get them put on this Saturday, so that's what we did. We loaded up the kids and headed on down to Les Schwab, yee haw! I wanted to play around on their computer they have where you can see how different tires & rims look on your truck, but there were some kids playing on it, so we just left my truck and keys with them and left.
We had about 1.5 - 2 hours to kill, so we walked over to McDonald's for lunch. Wouldn't you know it? It started raining right as we started our walk. That is exactly how Oregon is. It was still about 75 degrees though, so we were all wearing shorts and of course, I had a tanktop on. I didn't want to eat at McDonalds, but the only other thing within walking distance was Applebee's and since we're trying to save some money, our financial choice was McDonalds. Blech. I had a Cheeseburger Happy Meal with no pickles and my middle son had the same thing. My oldest son had a McDouble Cruncher and Travis had a Big Mac Meal. We rarely eat there, even though our middle son begs us for it all the time, and we were all quite sick after filling our bodies with that.
Then we loaded up and took our oldest son in to get his hair cut. He has been wearing the "surfer style" for awhile now and it was getting a little too long, so we just got it trimmed. I'm not too sure yet if they guy did a good job though, because Xenon has a natural curl that is just all over the place. My hair was the SAME way when I was his age, and it just made any of my haircuts look odd. My hair is now VERY curly and I have a feeling that his might just keep getting curlier and darker, just like mine did.
So after the hair cut, we went to the Dollar Tree and since my youngest son's birthday is the 29th this month, we got him some cute "1st Birthday" candles. I also picked up 2 packages of Thank You cards to send out after his party. While I was there, my mom called me to tell me that my little God Brother is getting married! How cool, I'm so happy for him. My mom told me that his wedding will be September 22nd, which just so happens to be Travis' birthday. I asked my mom why the wedding was so soon and she said "Well, we hope she's pregnant!" - ha, that's my mom for you. I picked up a "Congratulations on your engagement" card while there and another Wedding card for a friend of mine who's getting married August 4th. This has been quite a year for weddings and baby showers for us, but I guess that's because that's what people our age do. :o) I also picked up a package of balloons for Rylan's birthday party and while we were in line, all Rylan was doing was arching his back in his stroller as hard as he could so he could see all the helium balloons they had there. Right then and there, we decided that Rylan MUST have helium balloons at his party!
Then it was back to Les Schwab with full bellies, a new hair cut and a bag of Dollar Tree goodies. The truck was just pulling out of the bay, we paid them $62 and took off. The new tires look really good, especially because we asked them to put the white lettering IN this time. I just think it looks better when you don't see "Firestone" in white lettering on your tires, but that's just my opinion. The tires are a little bit taller, so I can feel my truck riding a little bit differently. I also really needed new tires and I notice every little thing on my truck too. Of course, Travis noticed NO difference, ha.
We then we to a place where people feed ducks, and it's located in an odd place. There's a Women's Prison in Salem, with a creek running along side it. There's a small pull out and parking area across the creek and people go there all the time to feed the geese and ducks. I had a bag of bread in the back of the truck so we got out and let the kids feed all the fat birds. They are so tame that they come right up to any car that pulls in. Of course I pulled out my camera and snapped many shots of geese, ducks, pigeons, some random people, and of course I found a few flowers and bugs along the way. The geese are really funny because they stick their tongues out and honk at you, and Rylan had NO idea what to think about those things! I hope to be posting all those photos very soon for you.
After our bag of bread was empty and the birds moved on to other people who pulled up, we left for Costco. I needed to buy a can of Mocha Frappe Freeze (I like to put half a scoop of that in my Senseo coffee with some vanilla creamer) and I also wanted to check out their meat selection and their cake flavors for Rylan's birthday cake. We ended up getting out of Costco with my Frappe mix, a case of Rockstars, a case of Powerbars and a pepperoni pizza. After our full day we just wanted something easy to cook and it was a lot cheaper to buy a pizza there than it would have been to go out to eat. Besides, I couldn't find any meat that I wanted, even though I really wanted a juicy steak for dinner!
Finally we came home, cooked our pizza (which was very chewy, by the way), had leftover brownies with German chocolate frosting for dessert and then watched "John Tucker Must Die" with the kids. It was actually a pretty funny movie and I'm happy because now that my son is a pre-teen, he enjoys those kind of movies, you know... the mindless ones. I like them too and of course my husband hates them. Then again, he really isn't much of a movie fan in general. The movie was over at 10:00, Xenon and I watched some of the special features and then everyone went to bed.
I woke up an hour later, on the couch, because I got a text message from my dad. He asked me if I got my tires on today and I was glad that I actually did it and was able to tell him that yes, I did! I fed the cats, gave them some water, took my medications and now I'm here.
I hope you enjoyed my really boring day. Maybe my Sunday will be just as boring and you can share that with me too. ;o)
What did YOU do this Saturday?

Don't get me wrong, insanity knocks on the door of my peace sometimes, but now I have the energy to deal with it.
My daughter surprised me today, called (which she does almost every day, the boys a couple of times a week). She came over with a movie, "Premonitions". It was a lot better than I had thought it would be. She just turned vegan, so I made a cabbage dish with a new recipe I got from a friend. We both loved it. We talked and laughed and enjoyed each immensely.
Faith and all, your days sound wonderful - boring can be a wonderful thing.
On a sidenote, I had NO idea how expensive Applebee's is now. Sheesh, last time I ate there was 7 years ago, and now it seems like the bill is alot heftier than it was. I am not sure how much of that is inflation and how much is Applebee's becoming more popular. If I had known that, I would not have suggested it for dinner, when we were just spur of moment running around. Maybe we should have done pizza as well.
I did decide recently that we need to get Costco cards, I miss buying cases of things and not worrying about buying 2 or 3 cans of stuff every week.
