I hated making a title for this because nothing fit right and it all sounded stupid and ugh...
My friend Michelle died this morning. I won't lie and say we were best friends, because we weren't, but we were good friends. Her boyfriend lived two doors down from me and she lived...well in his room most of the time. She loved margaritas and UV blue and I always saw her with a drink in her hand. She was a crazy drunk, she would say anything she wanted and tell people she didn't know to go to hell but she always did it in such a funny way.
One of everyones favorite stories to joke about was one night when everyone was down in grand rapids and I had just come back home and knew no one would be around. As I got out of my car I hear someone yelling "Barbi! Barbi! Barbi! Hey pssssst! Barbi!" Its one AM and I see no one around then I look up to see Michelle
"Barbi you have to come in, no one is here, Mitch said to lock the door so the door is locked and Im up here so have the security guy come unlock the door because you have to come in!"
I must have asked her 5 times to just come down and open the damn door but she wouldnt so I had to get the security guy to open the door (good luck having two girls that dont live in an apartment convince the guy to open the door) once I got inside she force fed me ribs, a salad, cheese sticks and pasta all from Applebees "I didn't know what I wanted but I knew I wanted something so I ordered it all.....TO GO!!". I was in the middle of this terrible sickness I shared with her two roommates Brian and Mike that left us coughing non stop for 2 months so I had a brand new full bag of cough drops with me. She grabbed it from me and flung it around spraying the entire room with cough drops. Still weeks later I would come over and she would say "oh my god do you know what I found in the closet!? COUGH DROPS!" and I always needed one right when she pulled it out.
About a month and a half ago Michelle was diagnosed with leukemia. They began her on chemo and she was expected to stay in the hospital for 5 weeks. She was always pretty healthy and only 22 years old, so to be honest I wasn't too fearful. Then last week she began to really dip low and got a staph infection in her back and was covered in cold sores, bruises and blisters. On tuesday the put her in an induced coma to let her body fight off the infection and this morning she passed.
When Brian called me and told me today I was in shock, I still am. It has only been about a month since she found out and now shes gone. The worst part I think is that she left behind Mitch her boyfriend of like 7 years, he had just graduated college this year and had just started his new job.
Its scary to think this could happen at any time. One of my biggest fears is dying in college, it sounds like such a little thing but when I think about all the time and money you give up to be in college as an investment in your future it is terrifying and heart breaking to think that it could all be a waste and that you were better off enjoying those four years. If nothing else I will say that Michelle was one of few people that made my first year living in Michigan more comfortable.
So if nothing else I ask that everyone take their health a little more serious, feeling tired is not always due to lack of sleep.
And have a margarita or some taquilla for Michelle and rock a little Britney Spears, I know she would love it.
LOVE LIFE!

I will keep you, her boyfriend and her family all in my prayers.
Remember - God hears your prayers too Barbi....
Over the years, I've seen quite a few people die and every story deserves being told. Some appear to be permanently sick while continuously pulling through every health condition. Others appear to be in top physical condition and then, all of a sudden, they die... in a car accident. Life is a posterchild for the very concept of irony, it seems.
May Michelle's soul rest in peace and may you and your friends find it in yourselves to get through this, at your own pace.
Ugh, reading that was the hardest part so far. Tomorow and wednesday will be a real test. But everyone is wearing pink in honor of her, I think its sweet.
