On a personal note I'll add, not only has he been a constant inspiration, encouraging me to write and publish, but in addition to all his other achievements, he is a brilliant poet, and I thank him for his encouragement and support. Maybe he'll allow me to publish one or two of his pieces on Gather.

One love, one struggle...
You are the wind beneath my wings! ;-)
This is so appropriate for me right now.
Oh how I love this - Thanks Nalita.
Thanks Karen, and I thank Itibari -- mostly -- because all I had to do was copy (lol).
Lordy, Kathleen, such high praise -- do I deserve it, but thank you!
Lyndon, so good to hear from you again! Ron Daniels! How exciting. Do an article for us. Itibari and I worked with a couple of these, also; Itibari probably knows a lot more of these, though.
Sharon, God must have led my hand to choose that particular quote, JUST FOR YOU, because you are so special. I'm glad :=)
You are both quite welcome, Lune and Vicki. However, Itibari gets the prize. I'm going to give him the link so he can see what nice things you all have said about his work. He's VERY humble, and I know he will feel pleased to know you were blessed by this. (Whisper: Maybe it will convince him to share some of his poetry with us!)
HINT! HINT! When you read this, Itibari!
Thank you all, again. Sorry it took so long for me to respond!
I am happy you liked MY choices, but there are lots more in the book. Check it out if you get the chance. Thank you for the kind thoughts!
;=)
Yes, many of those I am familiar with from University classes, especially Ivan Van Sertima. I've studied a lot of the poets; I included Madhubuti and Baraka because they are definitely two of my top favorites. That may not have been fair and impartial for the article, but it is my article, and Itibari was kind enough to not make suggestions. By the way, there are also quotes in the book from:
Maulanga Karenga
Tracy D. Snipe
Susan L. Taylor
Winnie Mandela
Kofi Annan
Angela Davis
Cheikh Anta Diop
Dennis Kimbro
Coretta Scott-King
Jada Pinkett-Smith ... and a number of others. It was a gift I know I'll treasure!

Divinity

I love that as well. It took me a minute because I wanted to check the index for
Katherine Dunham, and I didn't see anything in this particular book. Liz, as excellent as is your writing, do an article for us!
"Read, read, read!" The last words of a long-time prof/librarian, but he was very gracious. No mention about his poetry, though. I'll keep working on it; you have got to...experience (trying to find the right word) his poetry. He's a master. We'll see. Good night to all, and thanks again for such kind words!
I figured with your expertise that you would enjoy it; in fact I know you shall. You and Itibari have a lot in common. I know very little about Ma'at and the Kemetian empire. I feel very dumb, there, and can't speak intelligently with him about such things, but he has such great patience. Yes, we have had great fun over the years and wonderful experiences. Let me know -- pleeez -- what you think!
Thank you ever so much, Sierra! Love to your grandchildren!
