Yeah, well...truth be told, there were times in the book where I wasn't THAT into him. I like a flirt and he didn't really have those flirtation skills developed yet. He might need some lessons from Canadian poets. ;-)

I love sci-fi - I'll have to read this one!

I read this a long time ago, and all I remember is it was very long and I liked it. I have a really bad memory, but it's good for rereading books. Think it's time I picked this one up again. Thanks.

I grew up on RAH. "Stranger in a Strange Land" is one I don't care for. It's not as bad as the incest fantasy ones he wrote in later life but any time he got philosophical it seems like the book suffered.

My favorite? "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress."

I cry at the end of Stranger in a Strange Land *every* time I read it. It's a great book.

My favorite SF/F character is Corwin from Amber.

I'm going in bit of a different direction with this, but perhaps you'll allow it. I want to mention my favorite "fictional" character, though not actually a literary one. For those who have been around long enough, there was a terrific show in the early 80's called Hill Street Blues. It was a police drama, yes... but it always had a twist. The characters were quirky, and sometimes the cops had less than savory facets of their own. One of the secondary characters, named Johnny, always had his eye out for the next money-making opportunity. He was sure he had found it when he stumbled upon an unknown comic in a nightclub. The guy was absolutely hilarious, and kept the crowd in stitches for his entire set. He did have a couple of things working against him, though. The first strike was his name: Vic Hitler. Yet Johnny felt that this was a surmountable problem if cast in a humorous vein, so he decided to back Vic Hitler's career. It was only after he had invested in various promotional efforts that he discovered Vic's other major drawback. It meems that Vic suffered from narcolepsy, and had the unfortunate tendency to lose consciousness in highly excitable or stressful situations. This included times that would otherwise be seen as stressful in a positive sense... such as an outpouring of appreciative applause from a large audience. After showing Vic on stage generating uproarious laughter, they would cut to another scene in the show. A little later they cut back to Vic on stage, sound asleep on his stool, and the audience dumbfounded. So there, in a nutshell, is the tale of my all time favorite one-shot TV character: Vic Hitler the Narcoleptic Comic. (I suppose you had to be there...) I really miss that show.
