Coco came into our lives on April 20, 2006, she was eleven months old. Our fuzzy three-legged boy Dallas was closing in on 17 years old and was beginning to slow down. I had heard that getting a young dog as a companion to an elderly dog helped to perk them up. So, after much consideration, we never had two dogs, Dallas was an only child, off we went to a local shelter with Dallas in tow. We went to the shelter with another dog in mind, but he turned out to be way bigger than he looked on the web site. We walked around the shelter looking at the dogs and my husband pointed out this little dog that came running to the front of the kennel when we walked by. My husband said, "What about this cute little one?" I looked at the name, Coco and said no, I didn't want a little girl, I like boys! We looked at a male Jack Russell that ran around looking for a way to escape the room, he was found roaming the streets of Chicago! We also looked at a Lhasa Apso that was trying to be the boss of Dallas, get her out of here! I already had one anyway. Then the lady showing us the dogs said, "Do you like Min Pins?" I said, "What's a Min Pin?" Boy, they must have seen me coming a mile away and my husband too! We had never heard of such a dog! I wasn't too crazy about the males she showed us so we went back to the viewing room and Bob asked about the little dog Coco. Well, we found out she was a red Min Pin and Bob asked me if we could see her? So, I said okay and the rest is history as they say. We fell in love with her and Dallas didn't seem to mind her either. I couldn't believe we were getting a "girl" dog! She was the best thing that happened to Dallas and us, of course. Dallas turned back into the young dog we used to know! Coco was a great companion to him the last six months of his life. We all mourned Dallas so much and still do in many ways. One day we noticed that Coco wasn't playing with her toys any more and just laying in our laps. We were grieving the loss of Dallas so much we didn't see how much Coco was grieving too. So we decided to adopt another dog, but that's another story!
Coco is not the name I would have given her. She is so regal, maybe because she is a purebred, she reminds me of a pharaoh hound, I would have called her Cleopatra, Cleo for short, but she knew her name, so we kept it. And she has so many nick names now anyway: Coco Puff, Coco Monster, Coco Chanel, Puffer, but mostly she's called Baby Girl! We love her so much! And of all things, she loves her mommy! I know all about Min Pins now! Like I always say to her, "I didn't know I was adopting a cat!" Yes, she has been on the kitchen counter many times, she sleeps under the covers every night with me and my husband, she walks around on the back of the couch and sits looking out the window and laying in the sun. She loves to talk back too and just talk, she said I love you the first time we asked her too! She's very smart! We are truly blessed by Coco and always wonder what she will do next!
