"Democrats want 'John Doe' provision cut," by Audrey Hudson in the Washington Times:
Democrats are trying to pull a provision from a homeland security bill that will protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leadership aides. The legislation, which moves to a House and Senate conference committee this afternoon, will implement final recommendations from the 911 Commission.
Rep. Pete King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, sponsored the bill after a group of Muslim imams filed a lawsuit against U.S. Airways and unknown or “John Doe” passengers after they were removed for suspicious behavior aboard Flight 300 from Minneapolis to Phoenix on Nov. 20 before their removal.
“Democrats are trying to find any technical excuse to keep immunity out of the language of the bill to protect citizens, who in good faith, report suspicious activity to police or law enforcement,” Mr. King said in an interview last night.
“This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists,” Mr. King said.
“I don't see how you can have a homeland security bill without protecting people who come forward to report suspicious activity,” Mr. King said.
Once again you are not allowed to protect yourself and others. As we have seen time and time again citizens are being sued for trying to protect them selves.
I have asked myself the question since when did the right thing to do become "don't protect yourself". You now can't report suspicious behavior without fear of being sued. You can't stay and protect your property you have to try and leave it to whomever has invaded your home and hope that they don't kill you while trying to get away. Criminals come into the US and those that have taken the jobs that are suppose to protect us are thrown in jail (maybe they did try and cover it up but with this kind of mentality I might have to.). The innocent are being prosecuted because they decided to do something besides run.
How did we reach this stage in this country where the criminals are able to make criminals out of the innocent?
I doubt this will see much viewing but it allows me to rant.

We can't go on together, with suspicious minds.

Nothing suspicious there, just stuff before people went crazy.
Thanks Lora
Thanks Ron
I don't think that protecting the John Does will lead to rampant suspicion Ron, but I just spoke to a former cop who told me of officers who feel they need to be hurt first before they they feel safe enough to do their jobs without fear of retribution.
That's wrong.
for a seat extender.
Seat extenders can be used
by overweight people.
They can also be used
to block people who
may try to overpower
their attackers, like the people
on United Airlines Flight 93.
They should not take out the provision.
In the case of the Imans their claim shows how their actions alone caused them to be put into that situation. They are trying to sue "John Doe's". More than one person had concerns about their activities, and one of those John Doe's spoke Arabic and understood some of what they were saying.
Senator Amy Klobochar decided to change
her position on the 'John Doe' provision
after talking to Sen. Joe Lieberman.
It's good that, at least on some issues,
Republicans and Democrats can agree.

Their attorney said it had nothing to
do with the Congressional vote.
Yeah, right.
