I recently was interviewed about my book coming out this month. The interviewer asked me a lot of questions about my writing process. I never really thought about some of my habits and wondered what some of my fellow writers do to get themselves in the zone. One of the things I do is have a hot cup of coffee or tea at hand during the day and early evening. Sometimes later at night, I'll have a glass of wine, but only one.
I also like to have music in the background rather than total quiet. I have a few favorite movie tracks I listen to depending on what I'm writing. Today I need heroic music and listened to the soundtrack from THE RETURN OF THE KING. What about you?

My afternoons are divided between more writing or preparing submissions, answering emails etc.
Come evening, if my husband has to return to work I tend to write more (if I have the energy).
I rarely have music on and my only interuptions are my dogs placing their heads on my lap or the telephone ringing.
I usually take off Saturday and Sunday unless my husband is busy elsewhere.
I have written poetry in the past, and I have written only one novel thus far.
I had to have music that reminded me of that character at that moment.
I too, write notes all the time. I am trying to get my second novel off the ground, and it is been difficult this time.
If the novel is character driven, the music helps to get into the "head" of that character.
I will write several "moving" paragraphs if I can not get started.
