All right. Time for some fun . . . I give a quote and YOU guess WHO said it!! Two famous politicians express their view on Iraq and Saddam before the invasion. Could they be some of the ones who stuck to their principles and voted against this invasion? Could be! . . . maybe they . . . . flip-flopped?

( 1. )
"The Sanctions exist--not for the purpose of hurting the Iraqi people, but for the purpose of keeping in check Saddam Hussein's ambitions toward developing weapons of mass destruction. . . . And frankly, they have worked. He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."
( 2. )
In terms of Saddam Hussein being there, let's remember that his country is divided, in effect. He does not control the northern part of his country. We are able to keep arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt.
Ok . . . who are they??

I would not believe that GW Bush said the second, or the first for that matter, since his objective was to invade Iraq, same is true of Rumsfeld. I would guess that the most likely person is Condi Rice in her role as National Security Adviser.
The interesting thing about these two people was that they were the two prongs of the US Foreign Policy Diplomacy and Intelligence and, arguably, they should have been the two most considered and advised recommendations in the POTUS decision making on the topic.
Feb. 24, 2oo1 - US Secretary of State Colin Powell. He gave this quote immediately after a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amre Mousa.
July 29, 2oo1 - National Security Advisor Condi Rice (Currently Secretary of State). During an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.
Of course, after Sept. 11 that year . . . Bush would continuously link Al Qaeda and Saddam with the attack and somehow . . . mysteriously . . . Iraq has the most lethal, massive stack of weapons ever devised . . . and was (insert drum roll here) . . .
Looking for Uranium. The country he planned to invade before 911 . . . would soon get it's come-uppance.
My thanks to Colin for not having the character to stand up for what was right until after he left the BA and could profit from his book (I know I bought one).
I'm sure Condi will have a book after she leaves too . . . she just lacks the character to leave early that Powell had. (Just my opinions).
Congrats to:
Sheryl (1/2 credit)
Ty (1/3 credit - 3 guesses and no saying which was which)
Evie - . . . nailed 'em in order!
Karl - Perfect.
Don - Perfect.
Cheri - Bonus for the laugh!! But she changed once (to Sec. of State) so she held two positions where Powell held one. Two people - three positions.
Jerry - Thanks buddy!
