Prejudice is alive and rampant in the world. It doesn't make sense that this happens. Like M&M's we may all look different but inside we are all the same. When we go to the hospital and we get a blood tranfusion the blood is categorized by types not race. The very blood that saves our life may come from a different race. How does a prejudiced person resolve that? Their blood may be now mixed with a person from the race they hate and the kindness of a person of that race they hate has saved their lives.
Because of the history in the United States how can a non-white person not feel that race is involved when they interact with white people and get a negative look, response or treatment?
The Sixties brought about change in this United States that was long over due. Unfortunately the change is not complete.
The laws are in place but too often it is a crime to DWB. What is DWB? You ask? Well, that's driving while black. Many black people traveling through different states get pulled over just because they are black. If they have money for their vacation the police may decide they are drug dealers and confiscate the cash.
How about buying/renting a house while black? Their are still some neighborhoods that are all white and real estate agents despite the law will find a way that the deal won't go through.
We are changing as a nation but we need to change one by one. Please stand up for what is right! Examine your prejudice and why you feel that way. One negative experience by someone from another race should not make you hate everyone from that race. There are good and bad in every race and it is time we realize that and stop making blanket judgements about others.
In the Bible this is a scripture that tells what I think God wants us to do:
1 Peter 3:
8To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;
9not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

Besides how can we tell that we are pure anything anyway?
Charity, What Jesus said does sum it up!
We dont have hyphenated Scots - we're just Scottish.... even if the family are immigrants from Pakistan or Jamaica!
I didn't think I was complaining. I apologize if you take it that I am complainingl
When you hate another race, religion, ethnic group and you take out your hatred on an individual you are being cruel. There are good and bad in all groups. We all are the same, we all have feelings, we all cry and we all should be treated with respect and dignity. I was trying to point out that prejudice is a terrible way to be treated. I am an overweight white woman and I get hurt by others who judge me by the way I look. I am an intelligent woman and I get hurt by people who decide because I am a woman that I am automatically stupid. I am tired of seeing people I love and respect get hurt because they have a different color skin or speak with an accent. We are all the same in the eyes of God. He looks at our hearts and it is a shame most people don't look at each other the way God look at them. I understand people having pride from where they are from thus the hyphenation. Yes we are all Americans and we need to stop being prejudiced and celebrate our differences!
One additional thought: The person who finds the answer/cure to a disease could come from any social, economic, religious, cultural, ethnic background and everyone would run to get the cure not caring who it was or where they came from that helped them. Anyone you meet, anywhere in your life may be this person!
I honestly don't think that we should have to "press 1" to get to an English speaking person when we call customer service numbers or our utility company! It should be that if they have other languages available, you could press something to get to those!!
I live in West Virginia, which is one of the smaller states, and we have English language classes at the local libraries, Adult Education Centers, and in the Public Schools. We have a very mixed population in the area where I live. This is primarily due to the large teaching hospitals that are located here. Many people have moved here from other countries. I think this is wonderful, but if you are going to take care of patients in a hospital in America, you should be able to speak English.
It seems that a lot of other countries do teach English in their school systems, but when you get migrant workers, they may not have had access to this education.
Thank you!
