Most of al though its finally standing up to a bully. He has been warned repeatedly and nothing worked. Nothing changed in his or any dictators actions because they knew words dont mean anything. As soon as the US attacked Iraq, leaders were forced to make a decission if they want to join the free world or join the terroirst and many turned their back on terrorism. Ghadaffi is the most prominet one but Indonesia and african countries did the same. Even North Korea perked up and came back to negotiation table. Only after support for war was crumbling did the North Koreans start their nuclear program back up. Same thing with Iranians they saw that there was no united front and knew we would not go after them so now they are building nuclear something.
We had a real shot here but we did not have the stomach to see it through.
PBS teaches WELL
We don't need to stand behind a bully, though.
We are the POWER
We've got the POWER
If we wanted to we could blow this whole #%^&! planet to smitheens and everybody knows, and everybody is afraid of us.
We CAN "speak softly," because -- as the African proverb states -- we've got the "big stick."
The only thing is (I believe), we don't bully other nations.
If we did, we might not have a friend in the world.
Love the way you move and shake, Nalita, drawing eyes to the issues and inciting thought. ;)
It isn't too late to get bin Forgotten.
I truly believe our country (and I am proud of this) has the most sophisticated Intelligence system and network, beyond our imagination, far beyond what the public knows, but if the public knew our enemies would know, too.
National Security demands secrecy of certain secrets. That being said, yes, they know EXACTLY where bin Forgotten is. Has he been forgotten -- no!
As one great poet once wrote:
If these people have the ability to photograph these people before they commit these crimes (talking about Oswald), why can't they STOP them.
Every think about that?
There are photos galore of all types of activities of these criminals, but they seem to be so elusive.
Ask yourself,
"why?
Wasn't it the Reagan Administration, friendly to Saddam, who gave him the capability -- and looked the other way -- while he was gassing his own people?
He thought going to Iraq was dumb.
Thanks again, Lune.
I'm going to research Gravel a little more deeply after a bit. Saw him looking like he was losing his cool at a debate and didn't look any deeper, but I see here I should have, he's apparently not just a hothead but actually was upset for valid reasons. ;)
I actually like Obama. I saw his speech at the democratic convention and remember saying here is the first african american president. The problem is that he also doesnt get it. He will not lift a finger until the Iranians have nukes half way to Israel. Unfortunatly he does not agree with you and me on the pre-emptive strike business.
Also, Gravel was responsible for ending the draft, did you know that?
I trully believe that the days of countries declaring wars on each other are over. We live in a new era where your neigbhor can have a meth lab for God knows what purpose. You can pack a toothpaste (yes even a small one) with enough chemical weapons to whipe out an entire city which is why you cant sit back and wait for someone to do things to you. We did that for decades. All our attacks were retalitory. The term "Proportional" was used a lot but these days are over. If you are not on the offensive then your only place is defense there is no in between. Even neutral austria had a terrorism event in the 80's and they never hurt a fly.
The faction of al-Qaeda that attacked us and is associated with Osama Bin Laden doesn't operate out of Iraq, what we're seeing there is a faction spun off by the now deceased al-Zarqawi, he was trying to make a name for himself within the organization, much to the dismay of the operators of the real al-Qaeda. They operate out of Pakistan now, so this makes sense to me!
We've been going after the wrong people, plain and simple. Sounds like Sen. Obama has thought about the situation and instead of trying to appease one faction or another of this particular issue, he's come up with a realistic plan to address those who would say he's "soft" on terrorism and if he was elected, would make this a safe heaven for terrorists, as we've heard stated often from the G.O.P.
Thanks, Nalita, for making this info available and keeping me informed!
A megalomaniac like binLaden doesn't just disappear. You have to kill someone like that before they stop doing what they do.
He hasn't been seen by anyone reputable who can vouch for his continued existence, since 2005.
Face it - Osama binLaden is dead.
But, I don't believe in pre-emptive strikes. I don't believe in "get them before they get us"
I do believe in Roosevelt's "we have nothing to fear, but fear itself".
For Christians, we understand, that fear is the opposite of faith.
If we become a country ruled by fear, operating on a fear-basis, we shall self-destruct -- it is Biblical.
The Bible says 4 times in 4 separate place, "The just shall LIVE by faith"
The Bible never says the "The just shall live by fear."
The Bible tells us that without "faith" we can't please God.
Fear causes people to make mistakes, err.
My motives, my concerns lie in the best interest of this country. Think about what happens when any crowd, people, etc. are fear-driven. The rules of law and order and reason go out the door... I could go on, but I won't...
Let me see the scoundrel's body?
Senator Obama is not a joke -- he is a very sharp tool. Republicans credit him with that. I don't know if you watch CSPAN, but Republicans are very forthright about it, whereas they have little respect for Hillary, and want her to win the Democratic nomination.
I wanted to change my post the second I wrote it. Of course if we get attacked we will retalitate but I think it goes further. Just like with the quote you cited previously. If we see something is about to happen do we not have the responsibility to act? We saw something and for first time we acted before we got hit - again. For decades we have only retalitated to what effect? Proportunal response is only in our vocabulary not in the one from radical terrorists. I am not saying that we should gt down to their level but as we discussed earlier, we do not live in a world anymore where countried declare war. You have a group of thugs wanting to kill us. Their dedication is complete to the extent of blowing themselves up to achieve their goal. How do you fight that by giving up? Can you at last agree that if we give up the fight they will get embolden? For centuries they have been trying to "get the infidels out of the holy land". Libs are handing them that victory. Do you really think they will go home and work in their fields and factories? They wont be happy until the rest of the world sais Alah is great and Israel whiped of the face of the earth.
Barack Obama wants to shift troops?
What if we were to bring most of our troops home world-wide, (When you include all of the countries we have a presence in, and the total number of troops across those some 130 countries; what's that number?)
And perhaps secondly build a super strong defense, and protect our country from surrounding our immediate borders. In that manner we have the military superiority and the capable defense both on land in the sea and in the air. Add in the missiles and I think enough is enough. (Kinda like football... good way to play the game is with a killer defense.)
With a strong America, we could just become improved and take care of our own and become an even better place to live. Any one who is an American citizen and is interested in war, can volunteer to go overseas somewhere, perhaps Pakistan and every once in a while the hawks can have their little hunting trips overseas somewhere. ( And if we ever need to defend ourselves, we could wait until we are actually defending ourselves, instead of going over to execute offensive strikes.)
Eventually we will all have a sound government provided health plan (perhaps one that is similar to our beloved Rep's and Senators who are really working for us as handsomely paid representatives. Through in an American Express card for these guys too cause they deserve it.) as well as full and comprehensive educations. And we can bank the savings monthly while we're paying off the 9 Trillion dollar debt that good ol' W has charged on his American Express Executive card. (Not suitable for Dick Cheney who is no longer serving on the executive team) (so he charges a lot of CRAP on dubya's card)
Additionally this will reunite families across the land as our troops come home to heal. And each month that goes by will produce additional healthy boys and girls who will no longer stress about joining our countries fighting forces only to be signing up for a death warrant. And all of these fine folks can live without Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or whatever the acronym might be in the future.
We'll have healthier, happier children who will grow up to be responsible educated, contributing and loving people.
That's my version of the new internet game "The Sims- Dubya goes back to Texas."
Y'all might find this silly but I swear its true!
Thanks for returning. But I don't believe the war is in foreign lands. I believe the war is at home. Apprehend these jerks wherever they are right here in America, and even if they've succeeded (as sleepers) in obtaining Citizenship, use Homeland Security statutes to cite them as the treasonous jackals that they are and put them behind bars.
Believe it, or not, but someone close to me -- never wrong was she foresaw the DOWNFALL of America.
I shouldn't even tell it, because few will believe it, but maybe it will help you to understand why I don't envision much trouble from outside forces.
She told our family (before I was born) as far back in the early 50's
She told the family in the 60's up until her death in the late 60's
That America would NEVER fall to an outside force
She told us to never be concerned about Communism.
Remember back then the Reds were the major threat.
She said, it would never happen.
BTW, her prophecy rate was, and to this day is 100%
She saw, "the Black President." Never mind that for now. Because she saw a lot of things that have been happening long after her death up through today.
The big thing, the thing we are talking about now is that she saw terrorism and the terror threat, and she was VERY angry about America's lack border policy back in the 60's. She knew IT would be the cause of America's downfall.
She said INTERNAL violence, (terrorism), not external violence would do it, and she was very upset about it. Can you see why I take the positions I take now?
Knowing the accuracy of this woman sends chills down my spine that so much attention is being placed on the wrong things!
I'm with you.
And who was it that did that? A Republican president.
And who was it that broke down the wall and won the cold war? A republican president
Who was it during the entire cold war that denied soviet spies where in the highest positions of US governement? Democrats
Who was it that turned their backs on the S. Vietnamese even though we had treaties in place? Democrats
Sorry I prefer to look at history rather then premonitions.
Truman, who was a Democrat president, decided to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima August 6th and Nagaski on August 9th, 1945. The Germans in WWII had already surrendered to Allied Forces in late April 1945. From my knowledge, the Germans were aware that the US had atomic bombs. I was curious to know where you obtained this information on German's knowledge we had bombs.
I happen to be of Japanese ancestry and would appreciate you not using that word as it is offensive to my heritage. Thank you.
We just need to go after all those who threaten our freedoms and rights, whether that be Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, insurgent groups, etc. since all parties are affliated in some way or another.
Well said, good insight, and I want to apologize for comments made that were offensive to you.
Hillary is not to be trusted, and she is NOT Bill Clinton, not by a long shot.
I was very interested in getting some insight on Obama since I know little about him. You have some great points that reflect some of my beliefs and views, which I was a bit surprised since most of the political articles I have posted on just don't understand the points/comments I was addressing or were too ignorant to admit they are the one who are misinformed morons (as someone called me lol).
Definitely nothing like her hubby as you said "not by a long shot."
We here in Chicago have known about Barak Obama for quite a while. From what we see, he's a sharp civil rights lawyer in a state that already has boatloads of civil rights law on the books. He had a rather quiet few years in the state Senate, doing what he does best - talk positively, but provide few really tough solutions.
He's widely regarded here as a lightweight, with no foreign policy or economics experience...............two areas any President must be a master of.
Plus, he's rated by the National Journal as one of the most Liberal of all U.S. Senators. That plays well in Chicago, San Francisco, and the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but not nationally. He's a minor leaguer until he gets some good counsel on economics, the military, foreign policy, and international trade.
What I meant so say in my tired bumbling that the way to stand up to agression is to show resolve. The Doolittle boys did not cause much damage and by all military assessment it was a failure but it showed the resolve of the american people to stand up against agression. It had emense psychological effect on both americans and our (then) enemies.
That is why these DIVERSIONS are so disturbing to me. Al-Qaeda is here.
I agree. I am an extreme cynic, although I treat people the way I would want to be treated. One thing's for sure. America has got to take care of America, and Americans first.
That is good to know, and you're right -- he would soar in the City. Thanks for the education, Bret!
He would soar (Obama), as he did, in San Francisco and the Bay Area....
I knew an engineer who was rounded up for a death marhc by Imperial Forces Of THe Empire Of Japan, he spoke Japanese (the guards didn't know he did) and was able to warn his buddies of days the guards planned to start the march without allowing canteens to be filled. The words they used were "maggots", and a Japanese equivilant to "long-shanks" because they saw their American prisoners as tall, round eyed, white skinned. Different and worthless, to be tormented and deprived unto death. That is racism.
No need to puff up with offense when somebody uses 'Jap' when describing anything from WWII.
There is enough blood for everybodies' hands.
My aunt(s) are Japanese. I have blood cousins Japanese. My aunts don't even like each other -- says there are good and bad in every race. I'll tell you what is racism -- what you are doing. It happened, there is no denying it, and we've all had experiences like it. Please don't offend or hurt other people with those kinds of words. Senator Obama is about unity, not tearing down. They are MANY wonderful Japanese AMERICAN CITIZENS in this country that enjoy the same rights as you and me, as it should be. Let it go. The subject posted is about
Senator Obama wanting to shift/not totalling remove, but shift troops to fight al-Qaeda. What do you think about that?
B) shifting troops to fight al Queda is only part of the solution. We have had over 20 years of Middle Eastern sponsored Madras schools, world wide, spreading this fanatical form of Islam, we currently have displaced a government in Iraq whose void has created a horror of daily bombings. Those children will grow up prime candidates for al Queda. As much as I hate to say it, we CAN'T back out of Iraq now without dire consequences. I'd like to see Obama ask the world court to decide what should be done with Rummy, Dubya, Flip-flop Tenet and the rest.
p.s. Don't you just love Dubya throwing Tommy Franks under the bus in the last press conference as he tried to answer a simple question.
good for you Diana, so we can count on your opposition to the 'newspeak' named Patriot Act?
How in the world -- (maybe that's a poor phrase) -- can you help anyone else before you have helped yourself? America's own house is on fire. Put out your on fire first, then go help your neighbors.
Or, Jesus put it another way, take the 2X4 huge board out of your own eye, then you will be able to see how to take the little speck out of your brother's eye.
We are so often into 'other people's business', especially when they don't want us to be. Why?
o'Jay, Victor is an American -- PERIOD! End of discussion. You don't like it?
YOU LEAVE!
"Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama Want to Shift Troops to Fight al-Qaeda"
Thanks :=)
You know I thought over how Dubya should have handled the question about did we put enough troops into Iraq in the beginning.
Instead of whiny sacrificing Franks and the Joint Chiefs, the President should have countered with his own question: who of you would have predicted the horror of daily car bombings? Who of you would have predicted assassination squads sent out by men of faith? Who of you even took note that in the midst of the terror threats and horror, the Iraqi people had a higher turnout for their election than we have within the safe borders of our own country? The question isn't did we have enough then, it is do we have enough now... and you aren't even waiting to find out if the surge will be sufficient before you are second guessing the military and my administration. Sit down. Next question?
Now that's a President.
Not at all. If Obama was swayed by opinion polls, backed in '01 he wouldn't have called to decision to go to war, "dumb" (more coming)...
Unbeknownst to many I had the advantage of the foreknowledge my grandmother had given, so I also knew something like 9/11 was coming, there would be other "9/11"-like attacks and that the REAL threat was not from without, but from within.
I saw Hillary as she spoke about her vote; she was scared; she was uncertain.
Barack Obama is not playing the popularity/opinion polls game. Why should he?
Have you read the editorials, pundits? They are saying that Hillary better ignore polls and start looking at all the cash the VOTERS are putting in Obama's campaign fund, for money talks and the "little guy" does not give his hard earned money to something he doesn't believe in. They are telling Hillary, "Guess what, Hillary? All of those little contributions that BEAT you translate into ... you got it -- V-O-T-E-S
VOTES
The bottom line, and I did mean to say, "bottom line" is votes and that will be where the rubber meets the road.
Obama is not playing the popularity game. He is already, as the media calls him,
"the rock star" of 2008.
As for your comment criticizing me for wanting to go after those who threaten our rights and freedoms like Al-Qaeda, isn't that Obama wants, too? The last thing I want is another repeat of 9/11, which will happen if we don't heed the warnings and go after those who are responsible for the terrorist acts happening right now.
You are correct I should have not used that term. But as my wife sais, I get lazy when I write ;)
And like you I am also concerned of a 9-11 repeat. and from what I can tell Obama and the other democrats favor a "redeployment" of troops in the area so that we can deploy them to problem areas. Well besides the significant cost of doing so where would you put them? It again shows that liberals do not understand the complexity of the middle east. The USS Cole was bombed because it was parked in Oman and our boys went grocery shopping. Military installations and Embasies have been bombed in other middle eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia. Little Qatar has a major military installation but its not like you can get that many people there. Turkey didnt let us use bases during the start of the war so what makes you think they would take us now? Remember one of the things that pisses radicalls off the most is the "infadels living in the holy land" so where exactly do you want to put them without causing more of a diplomatic crisis?
He's our most valuable player in '07 '08 '09 and then some
Mr. Osama Obama all you know, not into men's sports are you? All you know is
lights camera action
That's about the only action we'll ever get out of you
Nalita you are wrong for writing this article. Read my article
I do agree that just deploying troops in problem areas is something that Obama and the Democratsneeds to really think about and develop a short and or long term plan outlining objectives and sitting down with Middle Eastern experts about the complexity of the problems that exist there. That is just the beginning.
Honestly, I have not read any specific details as to what exactly Obama plans are and until I have more facts (from various sources) I don't know how I feel. You do bring up some interesting points that might be a serious concern if we start another war.
