Well Frog, my 6yr old daughter, recently discovered that there is no tooth fairy.
We keep all important papers (ie; a lot of crap that we MAY need someday), momentos, and childhood paraphernalia in a file cabinet in this very office. Frog happened to be looking for something in one of the drawers and came across something very disappointing to her...her teeth.
"Are YOU the tooth fairy?" she asked in disbelief. No I assured her, I am not the tooth fairy. The full extent of the ruse was clear to her as she howled "DADDY IS THE TOOTHFAIRY!". She ran to her sister's room screaming "DADDY IS THE TOOTH FAIRY!" at the top of her lungs and crying bitterly. Monkey is almost 10 and it is hard to tell whether she still believed in the tooth fairy or not. If she did she would never admit it, but Frog..Frog was devastated.
This is a bit foreign to me. I never believed in the Tooth Fairy. or Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny. My parents were hippies during the first few years of my life and didn't believe in perpetuating regular childhood myths or religious holidays. Mainstream holiday celebrations didn't fit in much with our lifestyle anyway. All that candy...We did have sugar for baking but it was in jars labeled White Death ;) We did celebrate the holidays but with crafts, carob treats, and toy baskets on Easter.
When I lost teeth I would go to my mom and ask how much she would pay for them, then ask my father. Then I would sell them to the highest bidder.
Frog is losing a lot more teeth this month. The top two are missing and all the teeth on either side of her front teeth (top AND bottom) are loose. I haven't decided how we are going to handle this yet. I was checking my email today and came across a sale link for Plastic Bat.
I thought this would be perfect for all those tooth fairies out there searching for an alternative to the usual monetary gift. Everything is 15% off right now. They have some cute Tooth Necklaces In White and Black and tooth pins which are unfortunately sold out right now. There are also earrings for that older gaptooth. Also in white and black
Hmmm...perhaps a necklace for Frog..
