I wish
to be living in times
of horse and carriage
so that people would not drive past me
and make my clothes wet with the wheels splashing rain
I wish
to be living
in times before there were mobile telephones
so that people i meet on the street or the bus
would actually talk to me!
I wish
to be living in a place
where people remember your face
and a whole village raises my child
a town where people would not be constantly
on the rush to hide.
I wish
to be living in a world
where people are not means to an aim
but are the goal
where everyone is appreciated
for who they are
and not made to feel
they need to fit the mold!
I wish to be living in a world
that cares whether others live or die
and how.
What kind of world
would you like to be living in
today
here and now?

Just BE theat person you would like to meet on the street and act as if you already have this world you imagine.....despite the indifference of others. I believe that through your true work and interests and spiritual search you will find the people you need. We can't change the world, but we can change ourselves, and be an example to others.
Good poem, I think. It expresses something that we all feel sometimes.
I stay off my cell phone in public, if its important I will step outside,
but as my own rule I like to avoid it.
I make a point to say hello to people and try to act how I'd like to be treated.
Good article!!!
i appreciate your kind comments
by the way, a good friend is moving back to Texas, Houston, perhaps you could be friends, she is the sort of person that always says hello, she says it's that way in Houston.
Alison, tell more about that society, sounds great!
you know, re reading this , i thought, yes, horse and carriage CAN splash too but you know it's that feeling of being on the side, and others rushing past you , feeling like a roadkill, you know what i mean?
Angela, good point!

My son belongs. He has a "Viking" persona and enjoys the medieval fighting (with rattan swords). He has made a lot of friends, goes to fighter practices weekly, and weekend events often. It seems to be a wholesome group of people. Honor is important. Medieval clothing and crafts and music and dance are emphasized. It's very social.
