In honor of China, aka Princess China Carolina Snowbird, turning one the end of last month (June 27) I am sharing what I wrote in my journal about how we got her and her first few days with us.
She doesn't snuggle as much anymore but I'm so glad she completes our kitty family.
Hope you enjoy!
Meet China.
Saturday, Nov 4, 2006, we were at PetSmart buying kitty litter. As we were leaving the people from the no kill shelter in Buffalo mo were setting up. I said, "Oh why don't you go to the car B(my husband) and Z(my son) and I will look and meet you there."
Ha.
Famous last words, I bet he regrets agreeing to that.
I found a sweet little all white kitten with big golden eyes who is 4 months old.
I held her for almost 2 hours and B kept coming and going back to the car and read the whole paper while he was waiting. He said it's up to you if you want her. Famous last words. :)
She's here and we haven't introduced her to Tigger yet, they said to wait a few days.
I was worried she'd cry in the bathroom all night but she did fine.
I need to cut Tigger's nails and then the big introduction is Monday or Tuesday.
I sure hope it goes well.
Sunday evening, B had taken Z to choir practice and I was on the computer doing Freecycle(tm) moderating stuff. I looked up and guess who I saw in the doorway? Tigger and China.
Yikes!! I started to panic, we had planned on waiting a couple of days to introduce them.
So, I watched, Tigger was mystified, followed her, smelled her (both ends LOL), but never touched her or hissed or made that angry noise cats make when a new cat shows up. They did pretty good. He raised his paw once and I said, "Tigger," and he put it back down, looked at me and kept following her around. Well, China had a great time exploring the house. She ate Tigger's food and drank his water and used his kitty litter. Tigger just kept follwin her around with this quizacle look on his face as if to say, "Why is this thing in my house?"
He was so puzzled and so curious about her. She's about a 3rd his size. At one point when he was following her, she turned to him, stood up on her hind legs, batted him with both paws on the face and took off running! Of course he chased her and then they came thundering back and she was chasing him! She did go behind the couch and wouldn't come out, Tigger kept going in there to see her and then backing out, she was blocking the other end and he was too big to turn around. She came out face first, little miss plenty little to turn around.
I put her back in the bathroom for overnight because I caught her on the kitchen table. Then she ran across the piano and laid down on the cover over the keys like she was a princess and owned it all. LOL
So, Monday morning, I let her out and she went to the patio door and put her nose right up to the glass about 8 inches from Tigger. He jumped and started sniffing her all over again. Tigger seemed puzzled again, "What is she still doing here?" Monday, they fought, cat play stuff a few times and she only cried out once and he quit. He would run thru the room and leap over her lengthwise to get to where she was going first.
Again, I put her in the bathroom for the night and boy was she mad about it! She cried for a while and then quit.
This morning when I let her out she went right out to eat Tigger's food.
She has changed so much from that scared and quiet little girl I brought home.
Little princess indeed!
This morning while Z was reading his history lesson to me she did let me hold her and just snuggle and get pets for about 30 minutes. I love that. I was concerned she's become so active she wouldn't snuggle any more but she likes it.
So, should I change her name to Princess? or just keep calling her Princess China Carolina?
LOL That's who she is now.
I love this little girl.
Z just caught Tigger licking her all over but the pics he took didn't show faces, they were in the kitty mansion that Z made for them. I"ll try to get better pics of that.

China getting closer
Do I dare?
China's first snuggle with Tigger
Shhh! Princess China Carolina is sleeping.
Tigger is a flame point and he looked so much whiter before pure white China came home....
Here's China 2 days before her birthday last month. All grown up.
