Are you looking for a new pet? The Humane Society of Pulaski County has lowered their adoption fee from $75 to $50 for the month of JULY only! Adoption include basic medical care (shot, etc) and spay/neuter.
Some of the animals have horrible back stories. If you visit their site Humane Society you may find such tales as Faith's. Faith looks to be chow or mostly chow. Faith was found running down the street. She was on fire and her mouth muzzled so she could not cry out.
Dottie is a Dalmation who I visited today. I wondered what her story was. Her mouth looked crooked and one of her eyes drooped a bit. Dottie was found with a slit throat on a call for another case of animal cruelty.
Last month a mare was found in very terrible condition. She was starving but that is not the worst of it. Some wire had become wrapped around one of her legs and gave her lacerations. The owners used a piece of PVC pipe for a makeshift leg and the pipe literally amputated one of her feet due to infection and injury.
Another animal, a mule, was not leading like her owner liked. So to teach the mule a lesson her owner chained her to a truck and then drove dragging her behind. Her hooves were reportedly wore down all the way into the soft part and she had abrasions and road rash.
One of the worst stories I heard also happened fairly recently. A woman's dog was found SKINNED ALIVE. Unfortunately she ended up having to be put down due to her great pain and injuries. Her name was Missy and hopefully her sad fate will lead to new laws and regulations regarding animal cruelty.
