Collecting...

I have been collecting comic books since long before I could read. I have an extensive and valuable collection. I was fortunate enought that my parents never threw any of my comics away.

fairies. I love them. And I tend to collect shoes, I suppose, but not on purpose. And I have thousands of books, but not because I collect them, really. Hmm...I think that's about it, though.

I think I finally reached the age that I have stopped collecting. My place looks like a gift shop and now that I am selling our two houses to move to another state I realize what I have done to myself. At the mountain house I am loaded with snowmen and frogs. Here at home I am loaded with cats, Kola Bears, and Holly Hobby Figurines. Now I just had to have every one of these trinkets when I bought them and oohed and awed at every gift I received in these themes, but now what do I do with them. I also hate to throw away books, so I have at least 100. As I go around trying to decide what to do with them I am left wondering why I even started in the first place. Oh, and don't forget the Avon decanters and "collectibles". That was another big problem, everything was supposed to be worth "money" some day. Yeah, right, where would you find the buyers? I also have two very old pieces of bedroom furniture I just couldn't bear to part with because they are close to 100 years old. Well, guess what, they're going. I don't know where but it won't be to the new house.
So, to answer your question, as of last week, I collect nothing. I refuse to buy another cat, snowman, frog, Kola Bear, Avon, or any other trinket that comes along and strikes my fancy. I will admire it at the store and then move on and remember how cute it was and how nice it must be collecting dust and taking up room in someone else's house.

I collect my favorite books. I collect magical type things, fairies, dragons, witchy stuff, sun moon & stars stuff.

We collect African art. Our living room and dining room are filled with authentic pieces. We just love how it looks.

Juan - when my siblings and I were kids, we too used to collect comic books and had hundreds. Never stopped to think that they'd be worth money one day...Good collecting to you!

Samantha - we have two things in common - our shoes and our books! Happy collecting to you!

Nana - I know what you mean about those dust collectors...you might try selling those on ebay. Some peoples "junk" is other peoples treasure. Congratulations on breaking a very difficult habit. I don't know whether I will quit collecting some of mine yet...its hard to do when you love shoes and music as much as I do!

Shannon - I like your kind of stuff! I used to really be into the mystical and magical and witchy stuff at one time too. I even have a few beautiful books on faeries. Keep on collecting!

Vicky - the books I know all about because I too have a jillion in every room of my home...they're everywhere, they're everywhere...lol!! On the other goodies that you have and want to get rid of you might want to try ebay...

Shannon - my brother loves African art too! I have a very good friend from South Africa that imports all types of authentic stuff from there and all over Africa. My brothers collection consists of swords, masks, and statuary...very cool stuff indeed! I'd love to see your collection! Take pictures of your stuff and post it, I'm sure others would love to see it too.

Dana - good for you on those country music cds and Nora Roberts books - I do believe I have at least a couple of her books too.

I collect purse (leSportsac) & shoes-- But my biggest collection is Santas.. I had been collecting since Iwas about 12.. Then my house burned down in 1976 and I had to start all over again.. I have about 350 santas-- all sizes from 1" to approx 3' tall.

I think the fact that my mother would give away my comic book collection and my bike and my stuff when I was at school impacted me to become a collector. I only buy Campbell soup stuff anymore. oh dvds and cds too. But I am thinking of selling some of the other stuff....

I cannot imagine thinking that 100 books is a lot! I have at least that many in arms reach when I sit at the computer!
I'm trying to gt rid of cow things, if anyone is interested.
I seem to collect old computers - between desk tops and lap tops I have about 10!
Then there's the clothing and shoes - I have way more than I need, but don't think of it as a collection.

Books, angels. When I was a kid, I collected match book covers. I had them from all over the world. I really regret that when I was a teenager I threw them all out. They would probably be worth something today.

Anything with stars, fairies, I use to collect coins, books... Make up Lol.

Linda - Your Santa collection sounds outrageous! I love them too and have about a dozen but where do you keep them all and how do you keep them from getting destroyed?

Mary - funny you should mention matchbook covers...I have a collection in a big glass jar of matchbooks and matchboxes from restaurants and clubs I have gone to from all over the world. I hadn't thought about it recently because I have a storage room that I pay over a hundred bucks monthly to store exactly this kind of thing...sheesh!

Jessica - I too love faeries. Theres a catalog called "The Pyramid Collection" that has the coolest faeries. They even have a site online. Check it out, the faeries are really cute! Stars - love em!
