Passage Titus 3:5:
5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

This is my favorite because it says he saves us through his mercy not what we do and so many think they have to earn their way to Heaven....

Don't feel alone. I have MS and often cannot remember stuff. I've never been a big "from memory" person. My personal opinion is to purchase a teenagers bible and read from it. Who cares if you can quote it, as long as you can live it?! Right?

Esther, wanna start a Bible club. I have been studying the Bible since I was about 9, and have have a lot of formalized training, yet I don't classify myself as a "Bible student", but to answer your question, give it a shot --

wow, I can't Esther, there are so many, so many. But, do you want to start a Bible club? YOU can be the owner. Not fair of me to not give you at least one answer, so I will go with the good report, from the Apostle Paul,

"whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report,

Thge bible must be read as a historical document or novel, picking and choosing verses is meaningless and worthless.

I read the Bible many times and did not understand it. At one point in my life I had the eyes to understand. I prayed to God to teach me and lead me and he did. I tried to memorize the bible scripture and studiously wrote them down on index cards. I can't remember many, but I got a good understanding of the Bible. Sometimes you can look at the Bible and see different things different ways.

Joe, I am sorry you feel that way. I hope someday you feel different someday. I resent the words Bible must be read... Which one of the They say, said this?

To me, the Bible is a connection between me and my Lord. It gives me the promises and hopes of eternal life. It gives me strength and encouragement to go on, even if it would be easier to say, I'm ill, which I am, and stay in bed. You underestimate the importance of the Bible in so many lives. I am sorry you are missng out.

I'm not a memorizer. I remember things that it says in the Bible, but I'm not good at knowing where, or getting the words exactly right. That's just how I am - like in conversation when I say "Didn't someone say..." and everyone knows who but I forgot. But that's okay. To me, reading the Bible is reading with the author looking over my shoulder, and if I need to know where something is, He'll show me.

Memorization, of anything, is one of the proven best ways to strengthen an individual's mind. I don't do enough of it, so I'm with you esther. Maybe this can be our call to action? You could start posting a memory verse of the day, and follow it up with a post the next day to see who can remember what (without peaking at other posts). Just a thought....

I love the book of St John, if you read the
entire book you will learn what His purpose
is; meaning Christ our Saviour. The one
verse I love most of all is St John 3:16,
" For God so loved the world, that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but
have everlasting life."

I like so many it's hard to decide which is my favorite. The one that comes to mind right now is "Though I walk through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil". That tells me that no matter how bad it might seem at the time, God is still with me and I don't have to fear, as He will take care of me.

if you will ask God to show you a verse,then write it down on a note card,stick in your pocket(or purse,but pocket is quicker) and whenever you have a few moments thru out the day (a bus ride,subway,waiting for the elevator,ect) pull out the note card and read the verse....Consider what it is say (this is Biblical mediation) Keep at it for how every long it takes and it will stick in your head.You will be surprised how much The Lord will show you about that verse if you will just ...consider it
We all have great memory,we just fail in telling ourself we dont.

My very favorite is John 3:16.....promising us, humans, eternal life, if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior........to me, it means that physical death is only a "transition" to a much better place....to our ETERNAL home, to be with our Lord!
I also love 1 Corinthians 13, the "love book" of the Bible.
I am always looking for, and "choosing" favorite verses in the Bible....there is nothing wrong with that at all!
And, the Bible is so very relevant to everything in life.............for everyone, for all problems, etc............I love my Bible......it is MY "love letter" from God!!!!
