On November 1st 2000 U.S. congress passed the Transportation Recall, Enhancement, Accountability and Documentations Act (also known as the TREAD Act), after a major recall of defective tyres due to inflation issues which caused unsafe driving conditions. The US TREAD Act mandates that by 2008, 100% of all U.S. manufactured vehicles must be installed with TPMS technology.
