Back in the day if it walked like a chicken, laid eggs like a chicken, and tasted like chicken, it was a chicken. Given our current situation it won’t be too long until the chickens demand to be called Poultry Americans. Why do we bother setting limits in our society? Why do we bother acknowledging borders? Why do we bother doing anything? We have a group of teens and twenty-something’s that embrace mediocrity. They were praised for getting up and going to school. Praised for every minor accomplishment in their lives. Not that I have anything against praise but save it for an accomplishment. Something that stands above the rest of life’s chores and lessons. Just being on this planet breathing isn’t a great feat. We have instilled in our younger generation a terrible work and life ethic. We have not only given them a good self esteem but delusions of grandeur. We have created the gimme generation. Gimme a paycheck because I show up most of the time and almost on time but my hair is perfect. We place borders but don’t worry about enforcing them. Would 9/11 have happened had our government actually enforced its own laws? Who knows? If you break the law you are either given a ticket or go to jail. That is basic principle in any country. In this country we have allowed illegal immigrants to not only break the law but reward them for it. They stage protests. They work without documentation. They use hospital emergency rooms for their own private clinics and don’t worry about paying the bills. They drive without licenses in uninsured vehicles and don’t care. What’s the worst that can happen? They can always return to the country they came from. Or better yet give them some forged name and social security number. Who can that really hurt? Using someone’s social security number doesn’t really hurt anyone, does it? Any negative credit information drops off after 7 years anyway. I know our politicians would hate to offend these people. It might make all the difference in the world come election time. They don’t want to lose that illegal vote. Has our society really gotten to the point of being so politically correct we can’t point out or see the difference between right and wrong? You break the law, you get punished. . You show up and do your work, you get paid, you don’t, and you get fired. It’s that simple.

It get twisted both ways. There are a lot of people who seem to think equal opportunity means the opportunity to use their power to maximize the benefit themselves and giving anyone who gets in the way the shaft. .
I am reminded of the owner of a store where my daughter once worked. One day after lecturing his minimum wage employees that they should be thankful they have a job, he followed it by trying to make them feel sorry for him because of the amount of his tax bill on two luxury homes and the two luxury automobiles that were garaged at each residence. To his way of thinking it was unfair that he had to pay more in taxes than anyone of them made in a year.
I worked for someone like that for years. He never once considered that he was earning most of his money off the backs of his employees.
Liberal Joe,
Immigration is a problem. It's important to remember that our leaders are in the hip pocket of the corporations who want illegal immigration to keep supplying them workers.
The latest trend is to base corporate work centers in foreign countries (like Canada) so that companies can hire people without having to bother with immigration concerns.
This whole brouhaha strikes me as a diversion from the idiocy and mindless violence in Iraq. I for one don't and won't hate on command and I won't be manipulated by fear.
worked their way to Iowa. Somewhere along the line, everything caught up with
what I considered my backward home state. Now Iowa is in the same mess the rest of our country is in.
I'd like to see a grass roots movement starting in the midwest, the Bible belt, and
spreading outward to both coasts. A real change to bring this country back to the
dream of the founding fathers of our nation. What I'm really worried about is that
it isn't ever going to happen.
