Generic Comments

I think we all get these to some degree.

I have to admit I'm even guilty of it once in a while. I try to personaize things though.

I can see where you are coming from Tina. I have almost 700 con. I have never left a generic comment to one.

I kind of enjoy the animated gifs and such. I realize the less you have to type the more you can view, which helps us all. If it so inspires you to type a few words, that's great too but I don't offend that easily. You can all keep posting them to me.. I don't mind! LOL
And dagnabit... you're all gonna keep getting my animated gifs and sparkley tags! I love 'em!

The most recent ones I have seen are on the pics for the picture promotion or whatever it is. I don't have any feelings toward it one way or the other. While I have never done it, I don't have the right to tell others not to. To each is own, I say. But that's just me.

Not really joy..you don't know what we have to go through. just ask jeff p. HE should know. I am not telling them to or not to just noticing such an increase more so this week. wondered if anyone else has thats all. please read what Iam saying here and don't turn it as Iam complaining. just wondering if others have got an increase is all. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Better than no one commenting at all

Most of the time it doesn't bother me, but occasionally it has hurt my feelings a little bit when it was something personal. Especially if I have left them personalized comments every time.

I love all comments...if some body said beautiful I think no other word can beat that....but when the same comments copied and pasted on my every pic and articles..that is annoying...

Actually, Lora, you posted this in a public place. Which means that anyone here can comment on it.

I'm just wondering what the point is, since you posted the same question a few days ago.

I think if a person is giving time to your article or image and writing any thing or making smilies too...It means you are noticed....I love people who are very simple in their comments..They don't look the dictionary ...I invite every one to give comments on my images and articles too...

Actually Lisa, I posted it to my friends and collegues only, which you are neither so how you got to comment on it is beyond me.

I don't mind them. How many ways can you say "I like your photo" or "beautiful flower" or "lovely bird"? I like praise! It is of course particularly nice when someone has additional thoughts that they want to convey and take the time to express. If someone wants to criticize I'd rather hear specific remarks or suggestions, though, not just a general put down like "hum". Tips on how to take better photos are always welcome.

Well, in any event, it's here in the public area to be commented on and I'm still wondering what the point is, asking the same question you did the other day?

I'm very much guilty of this myself!

It's not like I didn't take the time to look over or that I didn't appreciate what was being posted but I spent allot of time looking over pictures and it got harder and harder to come up with original comments so I took a some what generic message copied and applied it to the pictures I liked. If I didn't like a picture or felt I didn't need to comment I didn't.

I know I had close to 75 pictures up myself at one time and some had no comments at all, I guess taking the time to at least look over and show some sort of appreciation for the trouble one has taken to download and post their photo's many very personal is just not worth it. I guess going back and removing my comments will be my next task!

I'm glad I chose to check back because I did start removing them.

I'll go back and re-comment on those I removed, but it's not easy to come up with thousands of original comments for pictures. I can understand if its articles, that would make someone feel like its just a drive by.

Philip, what's done is done, I understand both sides of the coin here, Lora M. was just wondering about the generic comments, yes they did kind of start this last week or so, i noticed, and I haven't been a memeber that long, most likely due to the contest extra points for the extra pic's...and Lisa...I don't know you nor have I read any of your posts, but here you seem a bit combative...why bother even commenting on this subject? Have nothing better to do? Just a question.

I have been guilty of it, but when I am getting about an 100 emails a day..it is very hard. Also, alot of times all the words I thought of are used. What should we say.

to be honest ..I don't care if someone gives me a generic..at least somebody looked at my pictures. Also, I comment on alot of people's articles..almost everyone that comes by..alot of these people do not respond to mine. That's not fair.

Amber, the reason I'm commenting on this subject is that Lora posted the very same topic a few days ago and I'm wondering why she's coming back with the same thing again. Just a question- just like yours.

The contest just made me a bit more opened to looking over my connections photos. I did start out looking over my connections photo's but felt a bit uncomfortable at doing so. It was feeling more like friends with some and a way to look into their lives with a feeling of getting to know them better that I look over them now.

Still I do have a few connections that are here for points and that doesn't bother me in the least because some of their reasons. Some want the points for home improvements ( some much needed ), books for their kids, even themselves, gift card for friends or family.

What ever the reason for being here on Gather, for most it's to share not only in friendship between connections but to feel like they matter in the crazy world we live in. To have people see your opinion and let you know that it matters not just to yourself but to others. I think they call that having a self worth and many seek it here even in an indirect way, as our world isn't an easy one to bear your soul in.

I just didn't want to offended Lora with posting generic comments to her pictures and photo's, and the question made me think that is what I was doing.

I'll take a generic comment anytime, beats no comment at all which is usually what I get lately. Also, some have more time then others, somtimes I only have that minute to type good job or something but I try to comment on things i like.

Geez....not that I have to explain this to anyone on Gather at all, but sorry I did not realize I had posted this before. I read so many things on here and comment on so many and I just forgot about it. Sorry for being human.

Just for the record, anything that you publish to groups will be available to the public unless you post it only to a single private group.

If you choose 'select people and groups', it will go to all the groups you request, and all of your connections.

There is no way to publish only to some of your connections.

Anything that you do not want circulated is best handled in private emails. And you cannot control who comments. Anyone who is a member, if they can see the article, can comment.

you mean those "Frankenstein" ....'hhmmmm gooooddd" type comments. I figure that if someone took the time to visit and comment on my material it is a plus. As the old Persian proverb allegedly says......"the dust of the shoppers shoes is profit"

well...i look at it this way...the people who know you and your writing well will make more personal comments. the people who don't know you well might make a more formal or "generic" comment or even none at all. it is just like anything you create, some folk will have a lot to say about it and some will not.

Phillip I do agree with you, there are a variety of people here, with a variety of reasons...i contend that if i were to post something I am not going to get offended w a generic comment, but w appreciate those who take the time, as i do, but that given I am sure there are many who have busy lives, there is so much here, I know I haven't even begin to touch the information avail, the art ect..
Lora...It's really fine...we are all human..or at least part..lol, try to just take it as it comes, some things you really just have to let roll off ...might have to dust it off...shake it off..ok just being silly it is a gorgeous day outside today need to go enjoy it...take care..smile...

To be honest it doesn't bother me. I know at least they are looking at the picture than. If it wouldn't of catch their eye. They wouldn't of even bothered to leave that much.

Well since now I know what you mean, I type generic comments all the time and I receive them. It doesn't bother me either, as long as we receive the points.

I don't mind them in the least. Better than no comment, rating or view.
