Starkey Drive is an up-and-coming rock band. With their first album, they’ve struck several chords: some of their songs have a classic rock feel, others are harder rock and roll, and some ballads almost bring back the essence of Steely Dan.  All in all, they’ve managed to corner several potential niches while staying true to their own unique style.
ÂJust as it is for writers like myself, most musicians are in it for the love of the art, not for the money.  Because it ends up being more an expensive hobby than an occupation.  But for Starkey Drive, the dream — the big break — is almost within reach.
ÂI know how it must feel for them, after being a semi-finalist in the Gather First Chapters Contest and almost having that Simon & Schuster book deal within reach. Â So when my friend, who is a friend of the band, invited me to listen to their album and help them out, I was happy to do so. Â
ÂAs the result of winning a contest, Starkey Drive has been given a great opportunity tonight.  They’ll be playing live at one of the area’s most popular venues: Ram’s Head Live in Annapolis, Maryland. They’ve performed live before, but never at an event this big.
Selling out the house tonight could be their big break. If you happen to be in the Annopolis area and want to see a great show—and support a rising band—stop by Rams Head Live tonight at 8.
ÂGo ahead: help a friend of a friend of a friend get their big break.
