According to a recent article in Newsweek magazine, the latest in wedding customs is to destroy your wedding gown following the reception. Photographs are, of course, essential. No more paying hundreds of dollars to dubiously "preserve" a dress you will never wear again, even if it is a $10,000 Vera Wang. No taking it to consignment shops, or saving it for your daughter, or selling it on e-Bay. No - the latest thing is to have a picture of you jumping into a fountain in full white overpriced regalia, or rolling in the mud in same, or whatever other creative way you can desecrate what is perhaps the most expensive garment you will ever wear. Wrecked her dress, but seemed like a good idea at the time.
Thank you for all of your comments.
I couldn't do that to my dress. Admittedly it's just sitting preserved in a box as is my mom's but no way could I do something destructive to it.
Sarah: reselling makes sense.
Jerri: sometimes the gown is worth more than the marriage, and it was smart to recognize this.
LL: yes. Sad that materialism rules these extravagant ceremonies, and that Bridezilla has become such a commonplace term in our culture. I can only imagine the hell it must be to live with these "me, me, me" women - who could stand it "till death do us part?" I'd say divorce is the better option.
Thank you all for your comments.
