New Fireworks Photos - Sort Of

I've posted a series of fireworks photos (and one of the Washington monument) from the annual July 4th display on the National Mall in Washington DC.

In all honesty, I'm not that crazy about most of them. For some irrational reason I decided not to take my Nikon digital SLR, opting only to use a Canon Powershot. I also tried taking the photos without the autoflash, which is why I have some that look like special effects.

So I've learned some lessons tonight. Can any of you provide some expert guidance on how to better my photography?
