Are Illegal Immigrants Hazardous to Our Health?

yeah but every year there is an article in our local paper about the rush to get kids their shots and how there are always so many who haven't had them. legal citizens or not.

But they do get them Missy. Not all people get their kids shots on time but we have eliminated many diseases by at least getting them. In many of these countries not only are the children not vacinated but the adults werent either. I for one dont want to see a polio outbreak because an illegal came over the border with it.

There are very few ways not to get immunizations here...I know you can bow out for religious reasons but in most of these 3rd world countries there are very few ways to get the shots.

You can stop worrying about smallpox. The World Health Organization certified it eradicated in 1977.

Polio is close to eradication worldwide. At any rate any danger of polio would have to come from outside the Western Hemisphere.

Bush and company are doing a good enough job of spreading fear in this country all by themselves. They don't need help from people who don't do some research before publishing articles that can spread fear and cause needless worry.

They do bring the risk of diseases we have under control in America, but look at the set of diseases we have here in our nation we can't get a handle on and treat well enough to eradicate. The is a greater possibility of some of the illegals spreading, but not all fall in that category coming from places that are more advanced than others. One would think schools would at least enforce immunization before allowing a student to attend, so it's hopeful at least the children would be safe...to us and from their parents. Of course, with the underhanded practices lots of them use and forging documents, who's to say the children actually had their shots...and false identities could be created to allow them to attend classes with no suspicions. I know there have been statistics released showing several diseases that have been basically non-existant in the U.S. in the past have started reappearing with the number of cases on the rise. Kind of makes you wonder what kinds of 'bugs' are out there living among us. Who knows what some of them are. And whatever happened to the Bird Flu? Never hear about that anymore...and it was so contageous and deadly. It just disappeared? Who knows if it got out of hand and is out there mutating in dormancy in some who have enter our country illegally from parts of the world it was spreading through. Almost like everything about illegal people with no documentation makes you go, "Hmmmmmm..."

Oh, nothing has been eradicated, just most everyone has been innoculated and become immune. There are diseases making come backs. Because we took the attitude they were eradicated.

You are right!!! Our ancestors had to go through health/medical screenings before they were allowed to enter the country.

These people are bringing in increased cases of AIDS, hepatitis, chagras disease, drug resistant TB, polio, etc.-----who knows what else!!

Lori, usually the sick aren't strong enough to cross the border. The greatest risk would be carriers of disease like typhoid, or most likely hepatitus that might find
employment in food services here in the States.

Cheryl very good point. The stuff I was reading that prompted me to write this article was actually about TB and polio.

This has already happened numerous times in California, Arizona, Texas, etc. The illegals are not required to get the same health clearances as US citizens or legal immigrants who work with food.

There was just an article about this about 3 months ago---about it being brought into the country by illegals!!! They have found this in the blood supplies in California!!

You are also right about increased dangers to our children. If the parents are infected they could easily be passing on diseases to the children---who will then pass on the diseases to our children.

Also, in regard to TB. The TB that the illegals are bringing in is the drug resistant/treatment resistant form. In other words, most people will die from it if exposed. The same type that they thought the lawyer had-----the one who was immediately put into quarantine after it was discovered that he was on that plane.

A recent Lou Dobbs show covered this subject when 2 airheads from the Southern Poverty Law Center appeared to challenge Lay Down the Law Lou about
it. While they proclaiming that there has been no increase in reported Leprosy
cases in the US, the graphic appeared on the screen refuting them.
It said: reported Leprosy cases rose from 76 in 2000 to 166 in 2005 (a 218%
increase) - source, US Dept. of Health & Human Services. There are 2 countries in the western hemishere noted for their relative abundance of Leprosy (Brazil & Mexico). One of these has a large input of illegal aliens, here.
Rarely if ever mentioned is the disastrous toll that illegal alien driving is taking on our overall health and well being. Traffic fatalities caused by illegal aliens, relative to citizens and legal folks, is astronomical. Illegal aliens are killing people
on the roads and highways at record breaking rates. This one isn't hard to figure
out. We're talking about people who (90% of them) have NEVER driven a car before
in their lives, never taken a driving course, and are completely outside of the scrutiny system which should be weeding them out and keeping them off the roads.
Why doesn't it ? Because they don't do through the legal channels to obtain cars.
They buy them illegally, buy an illegal license plate, never go near a motor vehicle office, and just start driving. Most cannot read road signs (in English or Spanish).
Just to illustrate how scary this is, I recently asked a couple of illegals doing landscaping where I live, who had driven cars there, if they could read a certain word. In Spanish, I asked them to read the word written in English and then
written in Spanish. Neither of them could tell me what the word was, in either
language. The word was STOP.

Carol - wake up. Or haven't you heard about bio warfare and bio terrorism?
Smallpox was "officially" eradicated and not actually. And many people and states have that particular bug on hand, probably "weaponized" by now.
