I recently purchased a passion flower vine. This is probably the third one in three years. Everytime I get one, it ends up getting eaten by these spikey orange caterpillar things! These things multiply so fast, that by the time I notice that something is wrong, it is too late.
Well, this time I decided I am going to pay close attention. I just love the passion flowers, and I am determained to have one! So, as I was inspecting my vine this morning, I noticed some very tiny orange dots on some of the leaves.
Here is a picture, not sure if you can really tell what it is, but anyway...
Then on another leaf, I noticed some holes. I inspected the plant, and could not see anything else. The caterpillar things are sometimes hard to see though...they hide in strange places!!
Here is a picture of he holes in the leaf.
I will keep up with my great detective work, and see if anything new transpires! I was wondering if anybody knows what I am talking about, maybe the name of the caterpillar things? They are orange, and have black 'spikes' all over them. I was told not to touch them, (I don't really think I needed someone to tell me not to touch something with a bunch of 'needels' coming out of it ~ lol,) because they are poisonous. Not sure if that is true or not either. If anyone knows what they are, and how to kill them, that would be great.
Also, if anyone knows if the orange dots, and holes on my leaves, are signs of this caterpillar thing, or something else, please let me know! I really want to keep this onealive! NO MORE BUGS!!
