Last summer while in Belfast, Maine I grabbed a bunch of flyers for local sights to see. I've been trying to get my parents up to that area (we have a home in Dixmont, ME) for many years. This September my Mom will finally see our place that we've worked so hard on. Many of you have read my articles about living off the grid and how rewarding it is. Even though I'm only up in this area 1 weekend per month I can not say enough good things about it. The people and the sights to see are amazing.
This past Saturday we checked out Winterport Winery in Winterport, Maine. We were not sure what to expect other than it was in a small town near to our place. The brochure was cute, so I called them to see what the hours were. They were open until 5pm on that day. We even were able to have a picnic with a water view prior to going in for our free tasting. We went in thinking: "Fruit wine, it's gotta be sweet." Boy were we ever wrong! Their wine is fantastic and they also do wine pairing classes in the same building. The building also features an art gallery. Each bottle has unique artwork on the label.
We bought the dry blueberry and also the apple blue berry. We loved everything we tasted. The folks working in there were very kind. Sometimes I find that a winery is filled with snobby people--but not this one!
We will be back for sure. Everything is also sold at great prices (between $10-$12/bottle on average). If you are ever in the Midcoast region of Maine, or exploring small towns on vacation...add this winery to your list. It will not let you down.

You're welcome! I'd love to take one of their classes someday too. :)
Thank you for the suggestions. I will research those online and see how far they are from home. :)
