On the 27th, I posted an article about the teen who was choked by the policeman, on skateboard day. After viewing several versions of the video everyone pretty much agreed this officer seriously over reacted. Today the officer was cleared of any charges. Here is the update, I will follow with a link to the original article and video. AP Posted: 2007-07-03 11:09:55 HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (July 3) - A police officer who appeared to choke a skateboarder in a video posted online has been cleared of any wrongdoing by an internal review board. A panel found Officer Joey Williams followed procedures when he arrested six skateboarders June 21 in Hot Springs, Ark. "He didn't resort to anything above hand control techniques and handcuffing," Police Chief Bobby Southard said. If this was my son I'd flip. They'd be hearing from my attorney.
This guy overreacted is the bottom line.
All the videos out there, all showed what happened.
How could they come up with the officer being innocent here?
Totally wrong!
The 12 year old was a victim of the police officer's temper. How he chose to react to this child was wrong period and point blank. The older young adults may or may not have been a different story. This officer needs to be on suspension at the very least.
This guy overreacted is the bottom line.
Joy, I expected no less than this. Cops usually get off scot free. Nothing new here. In New York this is a way of life:
Sean Bell was killed on what was supposed to be the morning of his wedding, Nov. 25, when police unloaded more than 50 bullets into the car he and two friends—all African American and all unarmed—were in. The three were leaving Bell's bachelor party in Queens, N.Y.
Bell's friend Joseph Guzman is in critical condition after being hit at least 11 times. The other, Trent Benefield, was hit three times. A report from New York in the Sydney Morning Herald said the two had been shackled to their hospital beds. (Nov. 28)
One white officer alone, Detective Mike Oliver, emptied a full magazine of bullets, reloaded and then emptied a second magazine—a total of 31 bullets. New York Police Department policy on shooting at moving vehicles clearly states that police cannot fire at a moving vehicle "unless deadly force is being used ... by means other than a moving vehicle." (AP, Nov. 26) The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, yet are still being paid.
Not just 'bad apples'
Authorities are scrambling to come up with excuses for Bell's death. The police claim that one of Bell's friends made reference to a gun. "Experts" discuss the problem of "contagious shooting"—which was amplified in 1993 when the NYPD switched from revolvers to semiautomatic weapons. The media is quick to point out that a multinational group of officers were involved in the incident—two white, two Black and one Latino—to downplay the racism in the killings. However, to reiterate, all the victims are Black.
But despite any excuses and "bad apple" theories, police violence and terror in communities of color is systemic, not individual. The police act as an indiscriminate, armed occupying force, with the mentality that the poor and people of color are disposable. Brutality against these communities is a daily occurrence.
As if to prove this point, the next day in the Bronx police attacked and then arrested Juanita Young, an activist against police brutality and the mother of Malcolm Ferguson, who had been killed by the NYPD in March 2000. According to a press release by the October 22nd Coalition, as many as eight cops participated in the attack, kicking her in the chest and back.
In addition, the group TransJustice has called for a press conference and rally on Nov. 29 to denounce the Nov. 1 beating and arrest of two African American men beaten by cops in the West Village of New York City. When a white male police officer pushed a young African-American woman without provocation, 23-year-old African-American college student Shakur Trammel requested his badge number. In response, the officer punched Trammel in the face and chest, threw him onto the police van and choked him with his nightstick. Eyewitnesses report that between four to six mostly white cops then kicked and punched Trammel and another African-American man who was being very vocal about his outrage at Trammel's beating.

These punk cops will probably never see the inside of a jail, but, it's all good. In my neighborhood you see them around noon huddled at busy street corners in groups of 6 or 8. At night you couldn't find one for all the tea in china. You treat people like shit...expect the same treatment in return.

Late Thursday night in Southeast Austin, 18 yr old Daniel Rocha was killed by APD officer Julie Schroeder. According to local news and police reports, a blue suburban was stopped on drug traffiking suspicions on south Pleasant Valley Road. Of the three passengers of the car, one suspect managed to flee, while the driver was taken into custody. Police claim that Rocha resisted arrest and that during the struggle Officer Schroeder shot him. However, numerous eyewitness reports have a different story, stating that Rocha didnt run and declared he was unarmed several times. He was shot while on the ground, in the back, point blank. Autopsy reports show no indication of a struggle on Rocha's body. The FBI has now given notice that they will investigate the shooting.

It's all over, and the more I read the scarier it gets.
Here's more:

Outgoing police superintendent Phil Cline said he was "disgusted" by the assaults. He said what dismayed him wasn't just the beatings but also how the attackers were subsequently protected by the department. Commanders kept the offenders in the December incident on active duty for months, even after seeing the recording. In videotape of February's incident, Abbate can be seen repeatedly punching and kicking bartender Karolina Obrycka, yet he was only charged with a misdemeanor till the state's attorney's office brought more serious charges. A police captain ordered his men to harass the media who came to cover Abbate's first court hearing.
"I won't tolerate any misconduct. If it comes to a criminal nature, we'll arrest you. If somebody tries to shield Officer Abbate, or any other officer accused of misconduct, then they're going to have to pay the consequences for it," Cline said after that hearing. But this isn't anything Cline hasn't seen before.
http://www.truthinjustice.org/jon-burge.htm
Jon Burge was a police detective that tortured confessions out of suspects. Some ended up on death row and a few may have been executed. Evidence points this way. I haven't followed the story to closely because it's so disgusting. Some of the allegations include electric shock and smothering. But you can follow the story on the internet for more details.
I hope justice is served somehow, or serious karma and a long & painful lightning strike, however karma decides.
It was interesting to view the information on other cities and police histories.
Jon Burge was just sick.
