Patriotic Pain, let Freedom Ring (TWC)

Well here it is once again

The Fourth of July

We celebrate our freedom

Gained by much pain

For our forefathers gathered

To fight for our rights

Left home and families

To fight for what mattered

For Freedom was why

They had traveled so far

From far away lands

Not knowing how, but gave it a try

Then not left alone, still ruled from afar

Our forefathers decided they'd had enough

So banded together, fathers and sons

To fight for our freedom, each soldier a star

The bloody revolution took hold in this land

No taxation without representation

Expression of reason, pursue happiness

Work for your own life, this was their stand

Now we stand here again

and fireworks fill the sky

to salute men who gave us these rights we enjoy

Fought for with love and won with such pain

Patriots all, our forefathers were

Fearless and dauntless

faced the unknown

to give us the America, we celebrate here

Elsie, thanks for the reminder of those who fought to protect our freedoms. It is raining cats and dogs here so the fireworks will be Sat. That will be better for me as i want to have a BBQ with my family. Keep on with the poetry...you are magnificent!

Fantastic Elsie! What a beautiful Independance Day poem!! I saw the fireworks with my 8 yr old Chloe and my mother. We drove 30 mi. to see them. God bless our forefathers!! They gave so much and now our young men are STILL giving!!

Behind every holiday is a story as to why we celebrate. So often, the meanings get forgotten. The more people tell the tales; the more those reasons will never fade away. We can always count on you to fill everyone in on the past! (By the way, I forgot to ask...did you know my Aunt Betsy back in the day? LOL!)

Great tribute to the 4th of July. I didn't get to see any fireworks since I was working. And fortunately, we didn't have any 'fireworks' there, it was a pleasant, calm evening.

DID you know Betsy Ross? Did she buy any of your wine? Oh, probably not, or the flag would have come out crooked.

Thank you! again, another late pop in. I guess I need to start managing my time a little better! I try but it takes me three days or more to go through each of the connections I have and I try to get to some of the groups in between!
