Iran is the "Mother of all Grenadas." You may remember after Reagan was chastened by the attack on troops in Beirut and quietly withdrew, he cooked up an invasion of the virulent threat to Western civilization, the island nation of Grenada.

Americans were distracted, Hezbollah was born and prospered, and Reagan was dreamily remembered as "tough on terrorism." (In fact, the Beirut attacks, and the sheepish retreat were object lessons that encouraged the growth of jihadist movements around the world).

This time around the stakes are much higher. The "long war" takes us to a country whose response to the US attack will make the entire Iraq tragedy look like a kid's birthday party.

3 carrier battle groups in position and a 4th in the wings. Get your popcorn popped and get ready for the show.

Trying to hold back war mongers chomping at the bit is like trying to contain a tidal wave. It's like they are little kids with ants in their pants and they are determined to keep hounding and whining away until they get what they want. If only we could just put them all on an island and let them rip each other to shreds except of course, the ones who plan the wars aren't the ones who fight them. What a bunch of wussy-asses.

The CIA in model after model advised Bush long ago that attacking Iran, in any way, could involve the entire Middle East in a war to make Iraq look like a schoolyard spat, so what is he totally determined to do?...............Could this guy be the Anti Christ?

Chip, I hear you loud and clear. We mere citizens are not privy to the war plans. Here is what Mario Loyola, former Pentagon consultant and fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, wrote in National Review Online in March, at the height of the British hostage crisis:

"With four aircraft-carrier battle groups, several hundred carrier-based strike fighters, and 20 strategic bombers just minutes or hours from Iran, the United States will have assembled everything it needs to cripple the regime and wipe out the most important elements of its nuclear program. Iran needs to know that this is the only alternative to complying with the Security Council resolutions. Otherwise, in a few years, Iran could be holding all of us hostage."

We need Iran's cooperation on Iraq and Afghanistan, and this sort of confrontational behavior on the part of the United States is counterproductive. Let's hope its rhetorical talk from the White House, like that of children shouting in the dark because they are afraid.
