A Farmer's Market Comes to Town! (And with it comes a photo essay)

When I saw the signs all over town announcing a Farmer’s Market coming to town, I just couldn’t wait!

The market opened yesterday, and had a wonderful variety of goodies.fileId:3096224744232746;size:inter;

This early in the season, selection is limited, however, once things really kick off, this market will be hopping. All the vendors promised me!

Love a good farmer's market. We have many of them here, along with private roadside produce stands. Being in a somewhat rural area with many farms, along with Amish and Menonite populations, the good weather season brings a plethora of fresh fruits, vegetables and plants, along with baked goods and handcrafted items...all of which are usually less expensive and fresher than anything you'll find in stores.

Exactly, Rob. Up north at my parents, they have a Mennonite run store where I get many herbs, spices and organic items for super cheap! I always make a visit there and stock up!

I love farmer's markets! We are having such Michigan withdrawal. We have been there the past 2 Octobers, and really hoped to make a trip in the summer. But, with most travel funds having to go to our "visit our daughter" account, and some issues at my husband's job...I doubt we get there. If we do, I'll bring you some Illinois sweet corn, nothing better:)

I love our farmer's market although I don't get to go there very often. They moved it and I can never remember how to get there now. :-(

mmm, nothing like fresh fruits & veggies at a farmer's market. used to be one near my office where I'd pick up kallalloo, a very tasty green.

We have rhubarb until it frosts in the fall. I made a rhubarb cake last night. We keep it cut off and used and it keeps producing all summer. If you dont keep it cut off it will get woody.

Connie, I didn't know they lasted that long. We usually get it for a short time in the summer and that's it! How much for a box of it? No, really.

Totally love farmer's markets, there is one here Saturday mornings that I make it to often. Some of the vendors have written a book about the market too, I'm anxious to pick up a copy. I get lots of greens, berries, heck, whatever they've got. Then I decide how to put it all together for dinner that night...
