As usual, just when I thought that I'd heard it all, a Gather member commented that God will fix your computer after it crashes. That's right, if your computer crashes, all that you have to do is pray to God and he will fix it. Even though our planet is ravaged by war, starvation and disease, God will put those obviously more important issues on the side burner and fix your obviously less important computer. Heck, while he's at it, he will also update your anti-virus program as well as all of your spyware software.
Oh but I forgot..God has also helped coaches to win Championships! He helped the Cardinals, Colts Spurs and the Gators win it all. I suppose that the opposing team's coaches wern't in good standing with God which is ironic to say the least since all of the above named champions have also lost championship games in the recent past.
Come on people..get real. Do you actually think that God is concerned that your computer has crashed ? If you actually think so, I'll hook you up with my neighborhood drug dealer so you can get another fix.

Don..Both ! lol
Carol..very well stated.
"Jesus saves. For everyone else, there's uninterruptible power supplies."
"I imagine God is tired of being called down on both sides of an argument".
Reverend back to Inman: "Yes, I suppose He is".
There it is, and I really like it.
How can God fix a computer? If someone finds out... let me know. I want to get thier god to fix some things in my life that aren't going my way. And I have a few people I don't like, so don't let them know about this God, since I want him all to myself to inflinct revenge on others.
Puh-Lease.
Just as everybody is responsible for their own actions, they are also responsible of the consequences of their lack of action. In your case your failure to have your system attached to a good surge protector probabably was what responsible for a lightning strike affecting your computer.
I could've just gone out behind the outhouse and had a little talk with the man upstairs and saved myself a whole bunch of money!
I found out that we had likely burnt up our surge protector running the computer on a generator and as such had no protection from the lightning. I also found out that surge protectors have a shelf life and need to be replaced every few years.
In response to Simon's remark:
"The author of the article very politely (and I'm not being sarcastic) told me my comments weren't welcome, so I removed them. But I felt a bit disappointed afterward. All I wanted to do was offer an alternative point of view regarding the supposed miracle. I imagined that a person of strong faith would be unshaken by my attempt at a bit of rational thought, but that wasn't the case."
In my humble opinion, a person of strong faith SHOULD remain unshaken by your remarks. That is what gather is all about, diversity of opinion. I see Christianity bashed right and left around here but I am not so insecure in my faith that it bothers me. In fact, considering the way that some people abuse the label of "Christianity" to justify the wacky things that they do, I'm not surprised.
No place in the Bible does it say God is cheery, likable and cheeky all the time or that He is a micro-manager moving us around like pawns, giving us motivation to mow our lawns or zap our computers back into complete compliance to our wishes (hey they're computers, they love displaying error messages).
God created life. With life comes good times and bad times. Most, but not always, the bad times we can trace back to our own infallibilities in decision-making. However, if you still make the right choice on every single decision you make in life; some crap is still going to catch up to you. And it doesn't matter if the 'you' is a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Atheist or that weird person on the corner that believes Jello is the answer to everything.
Okay, Tim, I turn this all back over to you now. (If I offended someone, the Bible also makes no claim, absolutely none, that life is fair.
I'm very secure in my faith in God,I believe what He said "I am the alpha and omega" (the beginning and the end).
Before I started reading different posts, etc on the computer,I had NEVER known or talked to anyone, that did not believe God.That was quite an experience for me.((((( I lead a sheltered life, and I'm grateful my parents taught me about God and His Son,Jesus)))
I do get very upset, when someone curses my God or the Holy Spirit, because I know then, that person is doomed. That is the ONLY unpardonable sin.
Robert...You took the words right out of my mouth. I personally believe in God. I've been a member of the Methodist Church and also a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, though nowadays I'm pretty much turned off by organized relegion of any sort for more reasons than I write here.
This article was written in response to a few Gather members comments on another thread. The author of that article was having trouble with the harddrive on her laptop, and numerous people suggested that the author should pray to God about it and he would fix it. In my opinion, people who actually believe such are nothing short of Relegious Fanatics.
Like I said, I believe in God....but for the life of me I would never pray to him about something as petty as a computer harddrive.
On so many occasions the right person has shown up at the right time to do the right deed or say the right word to help my world seem right again.
I don't believe in luck. I believe God uses people to help people. And Faith, is the reason I have for not needing proof for my theory. God Bless.
