Just a q. here?

I have noticed the increase as well. I am not really fond of the DB10's either. I try to read and make a comment on all of my connections articles and images, but the longer I am on here the more comments I have to make.
I am sure that some people just can't keep up with all of it and are really just interested in getting as many points as possible.

I think people are doing it more because of all the images being posted right now. I don't like it either.

I don't cut and paste comments, though sometimes I get redundant. It's easy to cut and paste them, that's for sure. I think it's because people get so many connections they no longer no how to manage them, and want their own work commented on. Since many people comment reciprocally, they know that if they comment on your stuff, they have a better chance of getting a comment on their own. That's just a guess, though.

I think it is because people are getting close to 100-200 emails a day just from Gather, esp with the promotion. So that everyone gets points for their photos - people give the generic message.

I have never thought to "cute & paste" a comment. It sounds so generic. If ever I repeat myself or make a similar comment to another one it is not intentional. Anyway, that is a good question (see there I go, I just know I've said that before) and I'm glad you asked it.

I think it stems from the same type of laziness that spurs the "things that start with an alphabet letter" posts, passed off as articles. It's an easier and faster route to get to that coveted gift card instead of actually writing something.

I rarely do it and when I do I'm very unhappy about it. With close to 300 contacts and more than 300 photos a DAY to go through (I'm a week behind on this, so you can do the math there) it's very hard to be fair to everyone and give them all the time their content deserves.

I subscribe to the belief that when you connect to someone you should look at and comment on their content, and I do my best to hit all or most of everyone's photos with the exception of photos that are from websites (as these are not the connection's property to post and are in violation of copyright policies.)

To do this takes more hours than I have to give in a day and sometimes I relent and do a handful of copy and paste to stay a bit on top of things. I hate it but there's not much choice sometimes.

Oh, and for those that responded that it's "for the points" that has nothing to do with it for me. For me it's about being fair and supporting your connections to the best of your ability.

Jennifer, I think it's really nice of you to want to comment on everything your connections post. When it becomes a job it's time to think about scaling back a bit. I don't think I'm the only one who isn't offended if all my connections don't comment on everything I post. It's just like real life. Sometimes people say things we don't find interesting and vice versa. It's OK.

i do it if I don't have something to say I say thank you for sharing, I will say something. I post pictures and articals and not many of the people that I comment on their aritcals and pictures do the same to mine.

First of all Lisa D. I don't do gift cards period. Secondly you always without fail make slams against those who post jokes, games, receipes etc. You like the articles fine. good for you. That is great. Others like the lighter stuff. There choice also. Why don't you try to find the middle ground and appreciate all types of post. This is NOT the first time I have read of you complaining of others who post something besides what you consider a article worthy of reading. Your stuff is fine to read, but so are others. It is ok. Jen. I have over 600 connections, though I will say I have NEVER used a copy and paste deal. Or like the one this nipy person posted.
I try to comment, send mail, or at least comment on an image or group to as many as I can. Unfortuantely, I give out way more to people then I have ever received back. that is ok though. I have my friends and they are cool.

I am new, and have not sceen that. I have no idea why one would want to do that, except to be lazy, and not really care to be involved in the discussion. Are they getting paid? Maybe they just want points faster.

I have been tempted to on some of the images lately, but just haven't had the heart. I rather look at 5 good pictures and say what I really feel than copy and paste DB10's on everything.

I just don't get a lot out of it if I do it that way. I appreciate that people are taking the time to stop by though.

That being said, I am getting to be redundant, but so are the pictures!

I've seen this a lot too, I don't like it. It feels so impersonal. I frankly don't care about the points, its fun to watch them rack up but other than that, I'm just here for the fun of ranting about stuff and posting cool pics. So I'm not gonna copy paste comments just to get said points, I feel its much more important to leave meaningful comments.

Lora- I didn't realize you only wanted answers you liked. Next time, perhaps you ought to put that in your article, so it's clear.

I'm curious, though. You aren't concerned about the absence of "thought" in articles posted, such as "Words that start with the letter V", yet, you are concerned about there being "no thought in the comment?"

What???? Lisa D. I don't try to fight with you never have. Actually, I thought you were a fairly nice lady. Then I realized how much you don't like people who post games, recepies, jokes, etc. I do appreciate your thoughts, and could even agree with some of it, but you just keep coming at me with putting us all down who post jokes, games, etc. I even gave you a compliment in my comment had you really slowed down to read it. I said your articles are fine to read. In other words I have liked some that I have read. You have some good talent. I have tried to tell you that in the past but you just put me down for posting things other than long drawn out serious writings. Which by the way I have posted several times. I don't wish to fight and I am not going to downgrade you like you always do to me. I still think you have some good writing talent and perhaps in the future can appreciate the lighter side as well as your own fine and interesting articles. God Bless.

I don't do it, but I guess people are in a hurry to make alot of points. I do find myself saying cute alot in comments of baby or pet pictures, though. LOL!!!

Lora- if you wish to consider my words as battle, that is your choice. Again, you asked a question publically and wanted answers and I gave you one. Also, if you'd like to view my opinions about articles that contain nothing more than games that children play, as "putting you down," that is your choice as well. I have no ability to "put" you up, down or sideways. Only you do. The same is true for your ability to "downgrade" me. It's not possible, except in your own mind.

You cannot compliment someone out of their opinion, trade one for dishonest feedback, nor use one to try to silence another.

No one has ever said that you must post only long, drawn out, serious writing. The suggestion has always been to post material that is original and takes some measure of thought. It's also been suggested that if you don't wish to do that, at least care about how it affects the content of others around you, (who are sharing this space) who do take the time to write something original, when you and others post so much of the thoughtless material.

I do have a great appreciation for "the lighter side" of writing however, in my mind, repititious, "letter of the alphabet" games don't fall into in that category.

I tell you I have read your works, I like them and you have talent and it is appreciated and by the way those ARE compliments. More then I ever got from you. That is NOT downgrading you. Lora, it's best to just ignore her. If the powers that be at Gather ask you to stop posting games and such then you might have something to worry about. Until then, don't worry. Lisa is just another member here. She has no more say so than anyone else.

Such an interesting question Lora. I do the cut and paste on photos. With the number of connections that I have, well, no forget that, with the total number of pictures being published on Gather, I could never get through a fraction of them otherwise. Articles, I do make specific comments on, and even some of the wonderful pictures I make specific comments. My thought is, Appreciate everyone, for some that I comment on have shared part of their life with us, and no one has rated or commented on their pictures. I would rather let them know I saw it, and appreciated it than to let them go with no comment or no one letting them that they appreciate the sharing they have done.

Lora, I, too give out more than I get back for comments. Certain connections I can count on one hand how often they have reciprocated my comments that I've given them.

It's nice to receive, but it's nice to give, too. I personally enjoy seeing as many photos as I'm able to. There's some great content on this site, but you do not always have time to sift through it all. Sometimes a measure to save time can be better. People have written me and thanked me for all my comments... and I know they appreciate it. It's a good feeling.

My personal preference is to avoid Copy and Paste, but to use it on rare occasions. Like now. I probably should use it.. but I'm not. I've been ill for the last almost 2 full days so I'm behind probably by about 2 weeks time now.. but I really am trying to stand out from the droves using them now.

Some of my connections have specifically said they do not mind if I use a copy and paste comment at times - even still I try to avoid using them, even for these connections. Sometimes it's just good to know someone has looked at your content. Original comment or not.

Lora- I don't care who Megan was referring to. The "joke" was ignorant, tactless and I find no humor in it.

A week or so ago their was an article written on how to get more points, in this article it was stated that you should cut and paste your comments to save time. This article even stated that if you didn't know how they would show you. This is what gather has come to...trying to find the easiest way to get points. How sad.

Hoo Boy! I have too many connections and too many friends and my computer has been down for a week and my other life obligations have had me hog tied for a couple weeks before that. There is no way I can make a comment on everything.
I still will not do cut and paste.
I sometimes babble on way beyond what the article was even about... but it all came out of my head.
As this is the evening of July 1 and I am here commenting on an article posted July 29, you can see that I do try to catch up... but I can only do so many things in a day.
If I have not been able to comment on my connections, I am sorry. I do appreciate each and everyone who has commented on anything I've found time to put up. I know I did put up some photos when I was moving them from Yahoo to Photobucket, but have received only a couple comments, if that. I realize it is the glut of photos going up now. I am not offended. And there won't be many photos from me posted - cameras and I do not play well together. So anything in that line that I do post, a friend or relative has probably sent to me.
Lora, if you didn't want an answer, why did you ask the question??? Basically, you knew the answer!!! You also know there are a lot that are not fond of your what starts with.... games... and some do! Why start an argument over something you already knew? I am confused. This same discussion has been beat to death I don't know how many times.

It's OK. Many humans have trouble getting past the rubber frog part. I think that often they're too numb to spell the name.
