Our senators are quietly voting on amendments to the controversial comprehensive immigration bill. Are you interested in discovering which amendments lived, and which died an untimely death? So was I, unfortunately - the titles of the amendments are not currently attached to the amendment votes on the senate website. Apparently, they're okay with keeping us in the dark. So much for transparency. But, oh well.
One amendment that would have required all adult illegal immigrants to return home temporarily in order to qualify for permanent lawful status was defeated. The amendment, introduced by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R) to eliminate concerns over the "amnesty" aspect of the bill, was defeated 53-45.
In a symbolic vote, the House GOP voted 114-23 to oppose the Senate measure.
