Tonight I was supposed to have a first date. Coffee, conversation and an early evening. Well, as sometimes happens, the best laid plans and all, things change.
I have been having a "flare up" in my back for the past week or so. Today it was extremely painful (My co-worker nicknamed me "Mrs. Whiggins" cause I was shuffling along so slowly). Didn't sleep much last night and knew I wouldn't be comfortable going.
I called to apologize and hopefully reschedule. I explained that I had back surgery a year and a half ago, that it still sometimes "flares up" and there are things I need to do to take care of it.
"Oh, is that your version of a 'headache'?" was the unexpected response.
"No," I begin patiently, "I use the headache excuse when I don't want to be with someone. Kind of like the headache I'm getting now."
Click (on his end).
Maybe I should save the sarcasm for the real first date.

20 years ago an experience like this would've bothered me, now I can see the humor and learning in it!
What is that saying?....."Sometimes a headache is just a headache." or a backache in your case:)
