The conclusion to the rain and storm episode was positive
The boys returned all in one piece,no harm was done
and i am learning the hard way what it is like to be a soccer mom.
This morning however is another story,
the youngest refuses to go to school because he could not find something,
it was no use having his older sister tell him she forgot erasers and pencils lots of times
I reacted very badly and yelled and threatened and he refused even more
Now the therapists have a name for this kind of behavior , they call it Oppositional disorder
and i roll my eyes in despair, can't they just call it being very stubborn?
The problem is once the boy has an idea in his mind, that he will be in trouble in school , that
he may get a punishment he refuses to go ,
like a mule , he refuses any offers of carrots or sticks.
This happens about once a week when i am lucky.
I wonder if i should reassess the school situation and consider sending him to the same school
as his brother next door rather than add another half hour of travel ..
Right now we made peace, i sent him to his room to cool off ..
after running around in the wind and rain looking for him, he ran back home and refused to let
me in.
I decided to re evalute the situation and see what makes him tick and why he is so often late .
My question is :
Have you had a similar situation when a child refused to go to school?
if so how did you handle it?
What do you do when the child refuses to do as told?
