"Purity ring" schoolgirl goes to High Court

"LONDON (Reuters) - A teenage schoolgirl will appeal to the High Court on Friday to overturn a ban on her wearing a "purity ring" at school to symbolize her decision to abstain from sex before marriage."

Good for her. IMO a purity ring should be treated no differently than a wedding ring. And I'm guessing the teachers have not been asked to remove those ;-)

Good analogy, Kristen ...... if the girl has to remove HER ring, why don't the teachers have to remove THEIR rings ..... after all, both types of rings symbolize something important to the wearer ... and for that matter, what about the school uniforms? ..... Do the teachers also have to wear uniforms, or can they dress as they please?

Good for her, we need more young people like her and less of the flip flop, thong pants wearing no respect for anyone, individuals like the one you see hanging out the mall. One of my best friends is a High School music teacher. She has mentioned to me on several occasions of some bracelets that girls wear, depending on the color it indicates what she has done and what she is willing to do. I wonder why they do not band these.

But in today's society, ban anything that resembles self expression? As if...

I say good for her too... but you have to wonder... why would this be any different than the "jellies" the kids wear around their wrists to designate how far they've gone sexually? A statement is a statement and whether you believe in it or not what's good for one would be good for all. So now they open up the can of worms... if one can wear a ring to represent her abstinence, then others can wear it to proclaim their conquers sexually, or their sexual orientation, etc.
