This is Shellbee, my dog. A few words on Shellbee

In this early photo taken about a year ago Shellbee is still sleeping in her dog bed, a thing of the past.. since she discovered she can play goldilocks she has been moving from bed to bed or bed hopping night and day. Sleeping is her favorite activity , something we "gather "insomniacs can learn.

As much as she sleeps she also can run like the wind, that might be due to her Jack Russell genes. Shellbee is an original Jack Duckel , a combination of Jack Russell and Dachshund , or Duckel dog.

I first saw Shellbee on the net while looking at various animal shelter. Shellbee came from an animal shelter that quoted St. Francis about the need of every living thing to have shelter. What is interesting is that when I came the dogs had Hebrew names, hers being Buba which means doll in Hebrew, thus I felt a religious duty to take her .. Like a catholic she knows how to make people feel guilty by her unique brown eyes looking sorrowful and sad , a true orphan that knows how to make those eyes earn her extra points and like a Jewish girl she will chat and chat , kvetz and mingle with the young and elderly. she is a combination of all that is good in mankind, emotions and empathy and a need to connect like Barbara Streisand sings, she is the luckiest people in world, she needs people and dogs.

She did however inherit some major hunting instincts which makes her a danger for rabbits , cats and birds, till now she has not killed anything except a few flies that have not been terrible mourned.

She is also our official nanny, standing between the boys if they fight, and barking her protest, pulling blankets off children that sleep too late on a school day , and licks tears and fears away when a child falls down , or just feels sad. No one can remain serious for too long around this one, she is also a clown, and sings opera seriously as well. Shellbee had been named after Julia Roberts character in" Steel Magnolias " she has the same sad brown eyes and athletic shape. we wonder sometimes who rescued whom and can not understand how she had been given to an animal shelter , racism or the lack of race on her part can be the only explanation , however let me reassure you this combination is a winner , she demands a lot however she gives a lot and we are forever in her debt for having chosen us .
