The media was complicit in the lies that led us into the invasion and occupation of the nation of Iraq. From March 2004,
We speak with a local Virginia columnist who wrote a column apologizing for the U.S. media's performance in the run-up to the war on Iraq. In his column "Why the Media Owe You An Apology on Iraq" he specifically cites the New York Times and Washington Post. [includes rush transcript]
<hr>In an article published on Sunday, March 28, 2004 by The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, VA, entitled "Why the Media Owe You An Apology on Iraq" columnist Rick Mercier writes:
"The media are finished with their big blowouts on the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, and there's one thing they forgot to say: We're sorry.
"Sorry we let unsubstantiated claims drive our coverage. Sorry we were dismissive of experts who disputed White House charges against Iraq. Sorry we let a band of self-serving Iraqi defectors make fools of us. Sorry we fell for Colin Powell's performance at the United Nations. Sorry we couldn't bring ourselves to hold the administration's feet to the fire before the war, when it really mattered.
"Maybe we'll do a better job next war.
"Of course it's absurd to receive this apology from a person so low in the media hierarchy. You really ought to be getting it from the editors and reporters at the agenda-setting publications, such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Jeff Smith's latest column for Recoil, titled "The Lies Continue: US Media and the War in Iraq...and Iran?" looks at the role of the corporate media in the United States in supporting the United States' occupation of Iraq. In the column, Smith writes:
Let's face it folks the media has played a major role in letting the current administration get away with brutalizing the people of Iraq. The major news media in this country instead of just reporting on the latest area soldier who has been killed in Iraq, should get on their fucking knees and ask forgiveness to these military families for contributing to the lie of this war. I mean, I wanna see Lee Van Amyde and Suzanne Geha and the rest of these local media people publicly apologize for not doing their job and holding the government accountable for the reasons they gave in starting a war. Well this isn't likely to happen. Instead the news media now is not only not questioning the ongoing occupation of Iraq and Bush call for a "surge" in US troops, they are going right along with the administration in beating the drums of war against Iran.

I recall reading apologies from the New York Times on it's coverage. One article in particular comes to mind...you can check it out if you wish: http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/9/4621
Yet, I remember thinking to myself...they'll do it again. They apologized because they had to...they were covering their' butts. We have no Fifth Estate...the corporate media is an extension of the Pentagon and the White House. They are the press secretaries. Most reporters are just another pretty face reading monitors and cue cards. They heave no minds and are not journalist...they're cover-girls and boys running ads for the powers that be. I saw a reporter on Jeopardy...I was astounded at how beautiful she was and also, at how stupid she was. They have beautiful bods and faces doing the weather who can't even spell the word meteorology. Some ugly old fart is doing the actual readings while this model is passed off as the real deal.
It goes beyond just being dumb, though, Peter Jennings is not dumb...so that makes him a liar, because he should know better. Is this their' idea of helping morale for the invaders...to lie about situations on the ground? Who do they work for...the people or the Pentagon? If Bush utters one of his thousand and one lies why don't they bring him to task? Is their' task to not offend the President of the Republic? Is their' calling require them to never stop kissing presidential butt?
Why do they say they're sorry for past wrong-doings, yet, continue to do it? Is it an illness? Are they addicted to lieing and just can't help themselves?
Just yesterday I made a posting to an AOL group:

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/BUL154330.htmIt is disturbing how they report this dribble without looking for evidence of such blatantly manufacture pronouncements from this bold face liar that Bush has put over there to act as a spokesperson for the coming war on Iran. This worthless general who is being handed a thorough beat down by the Iraqi nationalist is marketing a war on Iran. What's with that...man, get the job at hand done and stop whining about your' delusions of Iranian interference...but, of course, he is doing his job, namely:Manufacturing Consent For War With Iran.In short, we are being lied to, again...by the corporate media.I read an article today that goes to the gist of the matter...check it out (excerpts):Everyone We Fight in Iraq is Now "al-Qaida"Josh Marshall publishes an e-mail from a reader who identifies what is one of the most astonishing instances of mindless, pro-government "reporting" yet:
It's a curious thing that, over the past 10 - 12 days, the news from Iraq refers to the combatants there as "al-Qaida" fighters. When did that happen?
Until a few days ago, the combatants in Iraq were "insurgents" or they were referred to as "Sunni" or "Shia'a" fighters in the Iraq Civil War. Suddenly, without evidence, without proof, without any semblance of fact, the US military command is referring to these combatants as "al-Qaida".
Welcome to the latest in Iraq propaganda.
That the Bush administration, and specifically its military commanders, decided to begin using the term "Al Qaeda" to designate "anyone and everyeone we fight against or kill in Iraq" is obvious. All of a sudden, every time one of the top military commanders describes our latest operations or quantifies how many we killed, the enemy is referred to, almost exclusively now, as "Al Qaeda."
But what is even more notable is that the establishment press has followed right along, just as enthusiastically. I don't think the New York Times has published a story about Iraq in the last two weeks without stating that we are killing "Al Qaeda fighters," capturing "Al Qaeda leaders," and every new operation is against "Al Qaeda."
The Times -- typically in the form of the gullible and always-government-trusting "reporting" of Michael Gordon, though not only -- makes this claim over and over, as prominently as possible, often without the slightest questioning, qualification, or doubt. If your only news about Iraq came from The New York Times, you would think that the war in Iraq is now indistinguishable from the initial stage of the war in Afghanistan -- that we are there fighting against the people who hijacked those planes and flew them into our buildings: "Al Qaeda."
What is so amazing about this new rhetorical development -- not only from our military, but also from our "journalists" -- is that, for years, it was too shameless and false even for the Bush administration to use. Even at the height of their propaganda offensives about the war, the furthest Bush officials were willing to go was to use the generic term "terrorists" for everyone we are fighting in Iraq, as in: "we cannot surrender to the terrorists by withdrawing" and "we must stay on the offensive against terrorists."
But after his 2004 re-election was secure, even the President acknowledged that "Al Qaeda" was the smallest component of the "enemies" we are fighting in Iraq:
A clear strategy begins with a clear understanding of the enemy we face. The enemy in Iraq is a combination of rejectionists, Saddamists and terrorists. The rejectionists are by far the largest group. These are ordinary Iraqis, mostly Sunni Arabs, who miss the privileged status they had under the regime of Saddam Hussein -- and they reject an Iraq in which they are no longer the dominant group. . . .
The second group that makes up the enemy in Iraq is smaller, but more determined. It contains former regime loyalists who held positions of power under Saddam Hussein -- people who still harbor dreams of returning to power. These hard-core Saddamists are trying to foment anti-democratic sentiment amongst the larger Sunni community. . . .
The third group is the smallest, but the most lethal: the terrorists affiliated with or inspired by al Qaeda.
And note that even for the "smallest" group among those we are fighting in Iraq, the president described them not as "Al Qaeda," but as those "affiliated with or inspired by al Qaeda." Claiming that our enemy in Iraq was comprised primarily or largely of "Al Qaeda" was too patently false even for the President to invoke in defense of his war.
But now, support for the war is at an all-time low and war supporters are truly desperate to find a way to stay in Iraq. So the administration has thrown any remnants of rhetorical caution to the wind, overtly calling everyone we are fighting "Al Qaeda." This strategy was first unveiled by Joe Lieberman when he went on Meet the Press in January and claimed that the U.S. was "attacked on 9/11 by the same enemy that we're fighting in Iraq today". Though Lieberman was widely mocked at the time for his incomparable willingness to spew even the most patent falsehoods to justify the occupation, our intrepid political press corps now dutifully follows right along.

Finally, one thing must be borne in mind when considering the New York Times yellow journalism...that one thing is it's editor...Mort Zuckerman. That explains a whole lot...no need for the Pentagon or the White House to twist his arm on biased reporting.

I do support Ron...he's my candidate for 2008.
My State has Hillary and Herr Rudolf running, but, they won't have my support. I do like Hillary as State Senator. Now to make the race a little more comedic...our munchkin mayor, Bloomberg, might also run...with those little legs he'll not get far...billions or no billions.

Israel's Military Intelligence Chief Warns of War This Summer
Israel's military intelligence chief warned Sunday that Israel is on the brink of a war that could break out as early as this summer.
Major General Amos Yadlin told the Israeli Cabinet that several factors were moving the nation toward war.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Yadlin cited Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas, World Jihad, and Syria who the paper quoted Yadlin as saying "are all actively working against Israel, and may force a conflict as early as this summer."
"Any one of these authorities can bring about a deterioration in the situation this summer," Yadlin said.
Yadlin's comments come as the militant Islamic faction of the PLO, the Hamas terror network, has taken control over Gaza and is battling with the moderate wing Fatah for control of the West Bank.
Along Israel's northern border, Iran's backing of Hizbullah in Lebanon has added more worry for Israel.
Syria, which also shares a border with Israel, appears to be preparing for a major conflict.
Earlier this month Britain's London Telegraph reports that Israeli officials believe that Syria is preparing for a major war against the Jewish state.
"Israeli intelligence officials have been warning for weeks that Syria is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in anti-tank weapons, antiaircraft rockets, and other missiles, and bolstering its presence along the Israeli border," the paper reported.
Also unsettling were comments from Mohammad al Habash, a Syrian parliament member, who made a recent appearance on the Al Jazeera satellite channel.
Al Habash said Syria was "actively preparing for war with Israel, which he said he expected to break out this summer." This month Israel's military engaged in war games in preparation for a Syrian attack.
"Israel seeks peace with Syria," Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said. But he cautioned "miscalculations that could cause the security situation to worsen".

Maybe they'll tell us about it...after the fact. Of course, even this report is heavily slanted...Syria is preparing alright...preparing to defend itself against an Israeli attack. Israel wants peace with Syria...that's a scream. If you believe that I've some coconut groves to sell you in Greenland.
I can understand the people being duped, but, not the media...they knew, because, I knew. As I sat watching Colin Powell making his tour de force speech and running bogus slide-shows, my wife walked into the living room and I turned to her and said. 'You see that man...every word coming out of his' mouth is a lie...I'm sitting here stupefied at it...quite remarkable and with such a straight face.'
She asked me, "How do you know he's lieing?"
I said, "Have you a couple of hours to spare? I can explain it to you."
When it all came out about Colin Powell's speech of lies...she said, "How did you know?'
I said, "It's going to take three hours this time around."
I knew...they knew.
Naturally, as usual, there will also be a balance in between where some will recognise the spiritual aspects and others will just see it all objectively ... each will have an outcome associated with their own inputs in thought and action ...
Most people will have no idea just what, how and why things around them will be happening as they will ... there will be much stress and confusion and all of that will eventually grow exponentially along with countless other 'changes' in weather and natural factors ...
Like thinkers will seek out each other for comfort in attempting to make sense of it all. There will be ever more polarization and violence between opposing groups, it will be a literal 'hell on earth'.
The stage is already set, the largest corporate interests have laws that treat them as people rather than business', the deck of materialism is very much stacked in their favor ... they will get what they desire ... ultimate power and control via lying, cheating, stealing, whatever it takes ... murder and wars will just be tools of change. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer, the power ratio will be ever more obscene ... darkness begets darkness and there will be never-ending conflict and death on massive scales ...
And/Or ... ???
How about those that choose the light ... the REAL light, NOT the false light of the institutional promise which has already been corrupted by darkness long long ago, will they still be here and a part of the experience predicted for the darkness ?
I think not, at least not in the fullness of materiality without spirit, in any case they will be experiencing things very much 'different' than those more related to the darkness ... maybe in another realm even. Death for those of the light need not be a 'bad' experience, especially when it takes you above the realm of the dark just described.
So where would one think they would end up ? Would you really like to stay on earth in the darkness scenario ? Maybe IF you were one of the controllers with the material benefits and perks.
As to whether any of this is even possible or probable is anyone's guess ... but it seems to me that the prudent ought to begin to give it all some serious thought. We do make our own reality and our co-create our shared societal reality whether one wants to believe that or not and/or attach a spiritual component or not.
We are living in strange times and great changes are more than just possible, they are imminent ... IMnsHO.
BUT ... to get back on thread here ... the media in general HAS been purchased by the dark side and the ones that are considered 'liberal' are only on 'that' side to the degree to make them an acceptable source to be believed by people that prefer to be liberal ... the light side IS liberal, the dark side is the OTHER !!! And the OTHER will always change things around to call their dark the light and vice versa ... liars do that !!!
Slandering the Dead: The American Massacre at al-Khalis
Thursday, 28 June 2007
By Chris Floyd
As Glenn Greenwald, among others, has pointed out, the new Bushist line is that everyone killed by American forces in Iraq is "al Qaeda" – a transparent falsehood belied by the Pentagon's own assessments but now mindlessly adopted by almost every corporate media venue, with the honorable exception (as always) of McClatchy Newspapers. Of course, the Invader-in-Chief and his multitude of bootlickers in traditional media and the blogosphere have always vastly inflated the numbers and importance of those elements in Iraq that are associated with al Qaeda in some way, however tenuous. Indeed, we know, again from the Pentagon itself, that the exaggeration of al Qaeda's influence in Iraq has been part of a deliberate, well-funded "psy-ops" scheme. (See "Hubub in Hibhib: The Timely Death of al-Zarqawi.") But now they have decided to dispense with the subtleties of psy-ops and simply repeat "al Qaeda" with every breath, in an effort to demonize all resistance (both in Iraq and at home, both violent and non-violent) to Bush's murderous boondoggle.
06/28/07 "ICH" -- -- But while this deceit is peddled for domestic consumption – avidly gobbled up and regurgitated by the bootlickers, and spreading the intended misinformation among casual consumers of the news (i.e., the vast majority of Americans) – Iraqis have to deal with the brutal reality of the war. And they know that everyone killed there by the invading forces is not "al Qaeda." They know that many Iraqis being killed by the Anglo-American coalition are innocent civilians. And they are increasingly embittered at the American slander of their dead.
This slander is being applied even to those Iraqis who have taken up arms against the very "al Qaeda" terrorists that the American military is purportedly protecting them from, Iraqis who are cooperating with the American-backed government and its American-trained military and security forces. The BBC reports about an horrific massacre of Iraqi civilians last week – an air attack with missiles and gunships that literally ripped to shreds the bodies of village guards who had just returned from a raid with Iraqi government forces on a suspected terrorist hideout. These men were then accused of being "al Qaeda gunmen" in Pentagon press releases trumpeting this magnificent feat of arms – accusations then duly (not to mention dully) parroted in the press.
But the people in the village of al-Khalis tell a different story. (And for all the bootlickers out there who have fully entered into the spirit of the sectarian bloodbath unleashed by Bush and resolutely reject any contradiction of Pentagon propaganda by Sunni victims, al-Khalis is a largely Shiite village, on the side of the American-backed Iraqi government.) The BBC, which acknowledges that it too simply repeated the Pentagon line in its first reports on the "triumph," has gone back to the village to dig up the truth – and to do what the Bush Regime never does, and what the American press does only with the most extreme rarity: give names to the "collateral damage" of Bush's aggression.
