That is a place I have not been yet in France, but I hope to visit soon.
I read a bit about it on line. It has it all; everything your romantic heart wishes to know.
It has a castle that started in the thirteenth century. It has a church with a strange spiral. An it is built at the epicentre of a prehistoric crater. If you look at a geophysical map of France you can observe that all the rivers' lines are waves going away from this magic place, blessed by the Moon.
The original owners of the castle, the marquise of Rochechouart, had it for 800 years. Then, during the revolution, they sold it to the new local authority and it is still property of the community of Rochechouart. Except of administrative offices, from the year 2000 on it hosts a gallery of 20th century established artists representing various movements. My daydream is to have my own little galery near by. Therefore my new art name, 'de Rochechou-ARt'. I will change it to de la Roche-chou-ARt. It is spellt like that (as a reminicence of langue d' Oc) and not in the established French way, by which you would expect it to be: Rochechoire).
One lady of the house was a famous mistress of the King Louis (quatorze) 14th. An earlier lady, in the time of the medieval crusades, was accused by the guardian of the castle to have committed adultery. She was clsoed at the top of a tower in the case of a lion. The lion came and sat by her and that was a sign for her to be cleared of the false accusation. The guardian was then at her place and immediately eaten by the lion. No joke!

Why does Janet refuse to visit France? It is the most popular destination for visitors and pilgrims in the entiore world. More people visit France than visit the United States.
Janet please fly when you have the chance, but as soon as I will be in that spot I will bring you pictures to enjoy!
We did not travel out of the UK for the last seven years. I do not enjoy long car drives either and now, with relatively cheap rynair tickets and the idea of chearching for a burn to convert into home and studio, we enter these short French trips for a while in this summer. I hope to bring you more about it after some time.
Hi Karolyn and baby!
With the many budget airlines now flying from all the regional airports in the UK, it is a cheap option to go abroad for holidays.
Yes, we go down to the West Country at least once a year (we have a small boat there) and it costs us much more than a nice week or so in Portugal or Greece or Tuscany!
I bet France is a real rip-off if you're blind. EVERYTHING about it seems to be such a stunning treat for the eyes!
Any way, finegrs cross, I will bring you more of Rochechouart after few days.
