Nice. I thought of you tonight, Mary. I was sitting beside my cousin earlier and a butterfly landed on her finger. She was silent and still for a few minutes, but even after she started talking and moved in her chair, it stayed. Several of us came in closer to examine it. It just looked around flapped its wings a few times and stayed on her finger. I thought about you and imagined that this is how critters (are butterflies critters?) are attracted to you.
I didn't notice until tonight that butterflies have spidery legs.
some butterflies have spidery legs and some more substantial-- depends which classification. I am very fond of the little blues becaue of Nabokov and they look like something from fairyland-- but the marbled whites are all so beautiful and like bits of cathedral windows floating across the evening grass.
your granddaughter is lucky to have such a visit... I usually get them where i can't photograph them
What's strange is that I was sitting beside her with a camera in my purse. I was so taken by the fact that the thing stayed there that I didn't think to take a picture. But then, you know I am terrible with the camera anyway, so I probably would have scared it away and taken the picture of the sky above where it had been.
That's what happens to me every time, Sandy! Either the critter gives me the slip, or it's there if you know where to look and look very carefully, but it blends into the background.

Sandy-- I can't tell yo how many times that has happened either. And the camera is usually in my hand, but I asm so in awe of what I am looking at that I don't want to destroy the sanctity of the moment. It was like that for the big swallowtail-- I just stood and gaped
and for the big hare every night when I disturb him--
both-- they give the slip the moment your shoe crackles a dry blade of grass and they blend so well with their background. the hare is usually under my foot when he bolts and I haven't any idea how many pheasants have blasted off to space
and I just stand and gape. forget being a photographer for national Geographic. I have the gaping part down.
thought it would-- would it help if I told you that with the Kodak I deleted about 60 percent of the images and with the Canon about 70-80percent?
and an average day is about 250-300 shots and the Canon is on 9000 images already and I began using it on 16 May and the first two weeks I deleted 90percent of all images
I have to leave and won't be back until late evening-- i am going to hunt for some friends for mirucek. I think he's lonely for a frog and now he hops to me when I call his name and peers out at me through the box
not good for a frog to be alone in silence all the time. he needs something besides flies, but apparently he gopt all four yesterday.
only sometimes-- I think it's a bit like people. You don't say nature is wonderful when th croc swallows the photojournalist, but you say it if it swallowed George Bush and the boa got Rove for breakfast.
then you would say that nature is just absolutely incredible
I figured it was a matter of hard work and persistence, Mary, and that my occasional shots could not be expected to bring the same results as the long work of someone as dedicated as you are.
(I'm talking about nature photography, of course.)
oh Aniki, it just depends what you want to do and how bad the camera might be or how much high tech equipment one might have. I just have a bad camera and so it takes a lot of work for it to do something that looks simple.
gather's servers are as bad as normal abnd have not been opening pages for last 16hours -- nothing new over there.
I love your work, Mary. I could never be a wildlife photographer because I'm too impatient. I take lots of photos of what is happening around me at the moment and hopefully find something decent in it all.
