A combined group of local automative businesses organised by husband and wife team Glen & Jo are competing in this years Shoot Out Challenge.
The annual challenge runs in conjunction with The Shoot Out filmmaking competition and usually features a twist to the normal Shoot Out criteria or a focus on a different creative field. Rules vary from the usual Shoot Out event depending on the circumstances, but it's usually as tough if not tougher due to it navigating through unchartered waters.
This year the challenge is to "pimp out" a car. The usual 24 hour time constraint will fall to the wayside with an emphasis on timing each session individually individually. With a focus on the quality rather than trying to beat the clock. The car will feature as a promotional tie in for the Shoot Out weekend with a few suprises in store.
The car in question is the humble but cute Suzuki Mighty Boy. The Pimp My Mighty Boy team is hoping that the small size will be a contributing factor in trying to get it done in time for the Shoot Out kick off on July 13th.
The majority of sponsors are signed up and ready to go, from the mechanical work such as a reconditioned engine fitted by Newcastle Auto Dismantlers at Cardiff, the suspension by Pedders at Gateshead, through to every square inch of the outside of the car: wheels and tyres by O'Neills Gateshead, Rhino Linings for the tray at Warners Bay, bodywork and spray job by Mamics Smash Repairs at Broadmeadow and the windows by Yates Windscreens at Belmont. To tidy it all up and add a few benefits for the driver and not just the onlookers, Tim's Trim at Warners will be upholstering the seats and doing the interior and Altapac at Kotara are fitting it out with keyless entry, immobliser, tinting and also wrapping the vehicle in graphics for both The Shoot Out and the names of the sponsors.
Orix have also contributed in a big way by sponsoring the event with the provision of a vehicle to the Pimp My Mighty Boy producers so they can get around while the car is off the road.
As well as showcasing the local automotive industry in the challenge on the weekend with the Pimped Out Mighty Boy cruising the streets during the 24 hour film fest the Awards Night presentation will see an edited highlights package of the Mighty Boy Pimping journey. The documentary will also feature on the 2007 Shoot Out DVD.
Sponsors will have continuing exposure for their involvement with the project with a soon to be launched website which will feature photographic stills of before and after shots of each of the stages, as well as Youtube footage of video extras. For 12 months after the competition the Pimped Out Mighty Toy will be out on the streets used as a daily driver emblazoned with sponsors logos and later used in the lead up to the Shoot Out's 10 year anniversary in 2008.
