Wednesday my wife and I went to visit my aunt. It does us so much good to see the pleasure she gets from our visit. All residents of nursing homes enjoy visitors so much.
Of all days to leave my camera at home, this one takes the cake. I’ve have been wanting to get some photos of buzzards, and never had my camera when a real good photo could be taken. We saw seven buzzards near the road eating what was probably road kill. At this time their food was probably ten feet off of the road. They did not leave it when vehicles passed. Any that were close to the road would move father away from the road. We parked a short distance away and watched for a short time.
Apparently their food was mostly eaten and one buzzard was eating and keeping the others away. If one got too close it was chased away. I’ll probably never get as good a chance as that to get some good photos of buzzards.
We signed in about 9:30. Two visitors had signed in before us. Not a lot for a nursing home full of residents. We passed a few residents in the lobby and hall. They all smiled and seemed pleased when we spoke to them. They get pleasure from someone new just passing the time of day with them.
My aunt was in the living room with one lady who is often with her. Even though we were not her visitor, the other lady seemed almost as happy to see us as my aunt, who was overjoyed. Their smiles when they saw us really brighten their faces and our feelings. We got hugs from the other lady as well as from my aunt. The joy we received from being so welcome is indescribable.
We went outside to sit and talk with my aunt as she enjoys the outside. It was early enough that the day was not real hot yet and in the shade it was comfortable.
My aunt was all smiles and laughs while we talked. Her joy was contagious and when we left we were very happy. We talked for a while and then I tried to get her sisters on the cell phone but was unable to. I know that one of them had a couple of doctor appointments during the week and was probably at one them.
Have you ever gone a long time staying at home, or in a hospital, or anywhere else for that matter, when you were there 24/7, without any family being around? Can you imagine what it would be like? How great would you feel when you had a visitor?
Some of the residents at nursing homes never have visitors. Some have very few visitors. Can you imagine how much pleasure they would get when the had a visitor? Can you imagine how good you would feel to see someone just light up with joy when they saw you?
Visit a nursing home.

I love your stories about visiting your aunt. I bet you and your wife brighten up the entire home when you come for your vist.
It was so sad to see how many of the residents never got any visitors.
My family and I made a lot of friends there, and we were always sure to stop and chat with them all every time we went to visit my dad.
Also, we would often bring our 2 dogs with us to the nursing home. The residents and the staff adored them! Those little fur balls brought people a lot of smiles and laughter.
They moved my Mom ( Miss Emma ) to a rehab facilely for three weeks. I will be going ever day until she comes home God willing.
You and your wife are truly angels.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
