Do Not Rate Until After You Read It....
Since there are so many bloody photography groups, I have been trying to take Gather Artists away from accepting photography into the group slowly but surely, and to concentrate mainly on what the group was founded for: Paintings, sculptures, etc... and accepting cool photoshop (although even some of that I am going to start declining)
However, something was brought to my attention this morning... that is, this is the only group where folks can showcase their stuff with the hope someone will inquire into buying it. There are many folks who take fantastic pictures which are for sale as prints....
Should we go ahead and allow photographs when the prints are for sale?
I will leave it up to a group vote.
If you do not feel like commenting, and wish your vote to be annonymous... and to save me having to do actual math, let's do it like this:
Click a 1 star for No Photography of any kind
Click a 10 star for yes, take them.
Click whatever other star for wherever you fall in that spectrum. This way the decision will be made based on the final rating of this article.

and I think you should be able to chuck out thins that don't match your idea of quality
I think, Lori, that if you do not mind being the decision-maker, then photos are quite alright. I occasionally display photos that I have enhanced along with my paintings in the galleries that carry my work.
What about a sub group just for photos, and delegate someone to sort and catalog? That way,if a person was just interested in photography, they wouldnt have to sort thru other forms of artwork to view it.
You can always change your mind later.
Also you might avoid getting 200 "artistic" fractal images" Me as an art buyer myself would not search too long to get past too many photos or digital images.
That said there are lots and lots of quality photo art and digital art out there, but I would not want to be you having to explaing why A is art and B is not.
So to make it easy for you my advice is - stick to the more socalled fine art; drawings, paintings, sculpture or similar media
I take LOTS of pics. It's what I do. I do it because I enjoy it. That doesn't mean that they're all fine art, or even art at all. Photos are, however, a whole separate type of art from that which is created with one's hands. I know this because I indulge in other sorts of art as well, and enjoy them equally well.
Lori, it's your group. Do what YOU want. You may lose a member or two who disagrees, but you'll gain others who agree and in the grand scheme of things you are the only one who really has a say because you are the only one who has to deal with what is posted. Do what makes you happy and don't worry about the rest. You can always create a "fine art photography" group LOL....or not.
"That's a burning question...
a fire in my mind.
You always had the answer for me
time after time.
All I'm asking is......
Where are you now?"........Keep the site "pure" and chaste.
It is too subjective, and really the main purpose of this group has always been paintings and sculptures type of stuff... with some very cool photoshop action from Melissa... but then other photo shop stuff started coming in that is more poster-ish in nature. I am going to start declining those for sure.
I'll let the vote go a few more days... but it looks to me like Photography will have to go to groups made specifically for that.
If someone wants to make a Photo group to showcase photos for sale, that would probably be a good move.
And yes. The ToS does state no selling here... But I interpret that to mean they don't want any legal hassels with an unsatisfied buyer. I believe if it is clear (and it is) that Gather has nothing to do with any sales initiated by pictures of artwork found here, then it should be ok if we are selling our paintings...
I agree with Trine....when I come to an "art" site, I expect 'fine art'. Not to say that photography couldn't/wouldn't be considered just that....but most juries and galleries would not consider photography in the same group as painting, sculpture and et cetera. Photography is always grouped in a realm of it's own. IMHO. ;)
Trine has the right idea and there are many groups covering the art photography sector.
No photography.
No posters. Some photoshop art is excelletn and is art without question, Like Melissa's stuff. That I'll take.. but not like phot's with words added anymore.
