Butt here is my question:
How do I put a link in a Gather email? You know, where the URL is blue and you click it and you are transported through Gatherspace to another location.

There are three primary parts to a link command:
1) The URL (website address) you are linking TO.
2) The text, or image that you want to link FROM.
3) The HTML coding to make it all work.
Until you get comfortable typing the commands from memory, you might want to save the basic HTML 'code' somewhere, and then paste it into your comment/message. Then, modify as required.
This is the basic HTML command for making a link:
To create your link, you would:
(in red, below).
So, a link to the Gather homepage, like this:

Would be typed like this:
You may find it useful to practice linking within a Gather mail message you send to yourself, as the technique for inserting links in messages is identical to that used in comments.
